jammed this today and... I feel nothing. 2 or 3 cool moments but this is a step-down from last album which was already a step down for WC

Somatic Defilement and everything pre-Valley is such a massive step down and it's entirely because the standard deathcore style doesn't lend itself to much dynamic and well-done writing. them moving more prog/alt worked wonders. Their first 3 albums are 3/5 at best.

I actually like the addition of clean vocals and passages for the most part, just the songs are pretty boring overall. When they go heavy it just sounds so restrained

to each their own, i'm extremely emotionally invested in the arc Chapel's been on these last two albums. if you can get a guitar performance to nearly choke me up (usually it's emotive vocals that do the job) you're on another level.

Which guitar parts? I recall a bunch of clean parts and chugging mostly

the solos in "Anticure" and the title track got me feeling things i rarely feel just from leads.

Yeah despite being 50 minutes long, this thing just sounds tight and cohesive. Every song relates to the other.

either this album kinda sucks or I'm becoming a boomer who no longer enjoys modern metal like this

But the butt rock influences should make this album pro-boomer

Oh boy, yet another album to procrastinate on, listen to in December and proclaim “it’s aight” and slap a 3.5 on it, relegating it to my “honorable mentions” list for the year…

Not feeling this at all. Don’t know if the last couple of week’s new music has spoiled me or what but nothing here has grabbed me.

for some reason i always lumped this band in with bands like parkway drive, which i found just utterly mediocre and boring uneventful metal chugga chugga but alas this band, as it turns out is much better than PD

It’s pretty good. A little boring, but a very cohesive album. Anticure is the song that really stands out to me.

I love Phil's cleans and they've taken a step up once again but I feel like the instrumentals just aren't very memorable at all for the most part. Hope it grows on me. I Will Find You is a fantastic opener tho.
