The Congregation was Einar’s solo album. This and Pitfalls are the most collaborative the band has ever been. Einar just ups the game on his vocals on each album which I guess gives off the perception that they feel more “solo-albumy” I guess

Fun fact: Raphael Weinroth-Browne, the cellist who played on Malina, Pitfalls, Aphelion and tours with Leprous, is also a member of the instrumental progressive chamber folk trio Musk Ox whose new album "Inheritance" was Sputnik's AOTM for July.

Okay so the only 2 albums I’ve heard from leprous before this were Malina (gave it a 3) and Congregation (gave it a 3.5). Now I listened to this and loved it, and might bump to 4.5 after more listens. Is it worth me going back to their older albums, or is this one the most different so far?

Billateral and Coal are two really good albums, you could argue the two bests for some, worth checking for sure, just expect more prog-metal on those. I personally like both eras tbh.

I mean I can tell from the average ratings those are well loved, but I'm asking as someone who didn't care all that much for Malina and Congregation, are those still worth it for me?

Is it just me or does their lead singer think his voice sounds better than it actually does? Like don’t get me wrong, I do think he’s a great vocalist but too many tracks here are way too reliant on his voice to carry these songs. It winds up sounding sparse and devoid of most anything except his voice. I get tired of it after a while. Still not finished this yet. I was hesitant to start it because Running Low was so bad. Actually, All the Moments is far and away the worst here. Nails on a chalkboard

I think the band peaked with The Congregation. They’re so much more than that voice. Need more songs like “Triumphant” on here. I legit liked “Sillhouette” on here but that’s just because it actually sounded like The Congregation. Fuck this new direction. Like someone else said on this thread, what’s the use of the other people in the band at this point? It’s nothing but a solo project now.
And nothing on here is memorable. All the songs are the same. After first listen I can’t tell you which song was even which, except for Sillhouette lol

Close the door on the way out, I don't even want to argue about the same over and over again, the "solo act" bullshit or that every song is the same, were you guys even paying attention to it or what. If you didn't like Einar's voice it's weird that you liked it before because he sang the same in most of the previous albums.

It sounds like Disney lounge music in all honesty. In other albums there were at least instruments.

Pay attention to the music even when it is outside of your comfort zone, Baard drums in this album are (yet again) really fun and dynamic most of the time, Robin's guitar is very present on most songs and Simen bass is always there, alot of kb's and even an entire song written by Simen with a diferent twist than usual, I don't know man , for me the album sounds really fresh and inspired. Even if it has lost the metal edge and the super prog parts, it still has some proggy feel to it.
Edit: Forgot to mention the really present Chello throughout, wich I liked alot, it gave the songs another layer of depth.

Damn what happened to this band? (2)
They’re not Leprous anymore. It’s now Einar and friends. Their new direction is so incredibly boring at best and just awful at worst.

I mean there's a lot more instrumentation here than in Pitfalls but okay

The rating spread looks like my middle finger that I am giving this album lol. But nah I didn’t like Pitfalls either. The band really hasn’t been the same since The Congregation, which I think is easily their best album
Looks like Agent Fresco needs to make another album
