GLHF J this is basically the Tool of comedy specials

This was more entertaining and interesting than it was funny. I don't think it was supposed to be overly funny, IIRC there's a part where he films himself crying... unless that's the joke? That he's sad? and we laugh, is that the joke?

But no, really, Welcome to the Internet to the end of the album has some decent commentary(if not surface level). Amazon and capitalism are eNdInG tHE WoRlD and also I'm depressed about that

Problematic is like 'hey I'm sorry for saying dumb shit when I was 14' and then a diatribe against counter culture which is just...ok, I guess

Problematic is a fun 80s pastiche and there are a lot of good moments of musical joke-telling ("And I'm really fuckin' SORRRRYYYYYYYYYYYYYY"), but I don't like that it starts with him admitting his comedy used to be really insensitive, and then it goes on to not go into any specifics and just talk about some stupid Halloween costume. It feels like a cop-out to avoid mentioning any of the shit people have actually criticized him for (i.e. making rape jokes, that one crowd-participation bit where he gets the audience to say the n word, etc)
Maybe going into all that would have made for a less palatable end product, but the jokey kinda-sincerely-apologizing-but-not-really still just rubs me a bit wrong.

I don’t know man the way he gets almost an entire crowd of people to say the n word is borderline comedic genius even if it’s pretty insensitive and or offensive a

@widowslaugh Nah lol I get why some people got upset over it but I thought the bit was pretty funny

I mean listening to it the music pretty obviously wasn't meant to stand on its own as an album so it's pretty justified imo

feels weird to judge it as a standalone album while ignoring the context of the special. I understand that it was released separately, but it makes more sense to judge the soundtrack as an accompaniment to the show itself rather than a standalone "music album"

The same people that got mad at the n word thing were probably the people that got duped into saying it
|
| |
@Maniac agreed, this album is just a byproduct but I don't know what I was thinking assuming people were discussing this within the context of the actual special
