I'm patiently awaiting that rating. ;-)
I can't stop listening either, something about this is so warm and inviting. Perfectly coinciding with the start of summer (in my region at least) only helps its cause.

I do too. Also gives it part of that old-timey charm I think.

Unbelievable record. After Vide Noir, i was concerned that they will never reach their full potential, but wow, they really shown what they are capable of in this record.
What Do It Mean lyrics are the best I heard in a long time.
Day after day, oh, the world keeps turning
The stars in the sky above us keep burnin'
But it isn't for you and it ain't for me neither
Try though I might, I was never a believer
Taking it slow, but it all goes quickly
The time it takes is all I'll take with me
So I'm saving it up just to go out and spend it
Going to fly through my life till I crash into the ending.

I'm almost positive Meet Me in the City, Twenty Long Years, and Drops in the Lake consists of the same 1-2 min piece of music on a loop

yeah I'm exaggerating, but they're all too formulaic for my taste. on a positive note I do like the TT., back half is especially purdy

I love this review and the attitude behind it. Such an important perspective and attitude that so many people fight tooth and nail to deny in their own enjoyment of music.

Thanks, appreciate that. Encouraging people to look at the world with optimism vs. telling them to lower their musical standards is a tough line to toe, because usually when I promote the former folks here perceive it as the latter. I'm not saying 5 everything, I'm saying find ways to bridge the music you love with your life's experiences. It makes both more fulfilling. The thesis of my review could have been summarized in this one sentence: "There's no writing about music without getting close and personal, and life is devoid of color without music to fill it in."

Nothing wrong with having high standards. Then when "that" album comes along, it will blow you away for like three months and you won't even have a desire to listen to anything else, let alone 5 anything else. Last 5 I gave was like ten years ago. It could also be because most music sucks now.

yep so much to love here. also I was listening to Long Lost yesterday when I found out I got a promotion so the already good vibes in that song just feel surreal now
love how he seems to be channeling his inner Elvis Presley on "Not Dead Yet". love the dark americana vibes that give contrast to optimistic moments like "Long Lost". love the Sam Elliott/Buffalo Bill-esque narration

Not Dead Yet is a sleeper, awesome song. I love how he sounds like a caricature on most of this. Playing a role.
