While I think the production on this album isn't awesome (mostly the drums), it is at least mastered somewhat quieter than their previous 4 albums and so it doesn't sound quite so dull and fatiguing. So far the album isn't doing too much for me, but it might be a grower.

Never fully gotten into this band, but really enjoyed my first listen to this one

I sort of wish Dino and K Vile had just done a full on collaboration - two artists very much stuck in comfortable ruts at this stage whose styles match really well and just could have shaken each other out of stagnation.
I mean shared vocals, song writing, lyrics, guitar work - the lot.
This is so 'by the numbers' it is getting close to needing a downgrade to a 3 for me- a few bright spots hold it up, mostly from Lou tbh

Oh yeah Lou's really been pulling his fuckin weight since beyond, I honestly thought his stuff here was a bit weak compared to ther first 3 reunion albums

I think it's all weak compared to 'Beyond', 'Farm'...even J's 'More light'. I wasn't so excited by the two ones before this either.
Maybe I've just listened to less Lou so found his stuff here a bit more refreshing, dunno. Will keep listening...

Mmm I dunno, I've checked a fair bit of sebadoh and found it aimless at best and grating at worst, I think having J there to separate the wheat from the chaff does wonders for lou's songwriting

J's usually better I agree but to say he's already written all his best riffs/song ideas at this point is an understatement.
Every J song here instantly reminded me of at least two songs he's previously recorded, just how it is. Still listenable/likeable though

Their first two post-reunion albums are so good that it's hard for anything after to live up to those. And yeah, the two Lou songs stick out on here (which is good). I wouldn't say they're amazing songs, but I like them.

I kinda agree with you guys that J's song writing isn't as strong here, but I find "Take It Back" to be a big exception, I really like that one

Ok the riffs are still tasty... but what is j even saying anymore. It’s guided by voices level of incoherency

still need to check

they did a recent like live covid-style concert on youtube and did a long interview, don't remember the exact date but it was within the last two weeks or so. interviewer was a bit lame though and J Mascis seemed very uninterested and silent, letting the other guys answer but i guess that's not really anything new for him.

i'd be concerned if he actually did seem interested
