obviously the statement "this band wouldn't get anything out of being on spotify" is a bit narrow, as most bands opt to do so for a bump in exposure and ease of access for fans, but you have to acknowledge that in doing so they are essentially allowing spotify to gain more $ off their work than they will. late stage capitalism got you all fucked up if you think any band should suck it up for that shit

Apparently late stage capitalism has me all fucked up then, because I def think bands/artists should suck it up for that shit. The ease of access and mostly the exposure is what allows more fans to engage in the artists' music, which then can help sell tickets and merch, which is money in the artists' pockets.

the only way of receiving widespread attention on there is making it onto one of their heavily followed playlists or getting algorithm prioritization, both of which are blatantly influenced by payola schemes that make it increasingly difficult for smaller or unsigned bands to get any substantial recognition.
js as a whole i don't find it hard to see why some artists find it morally difficult to sell their music at a 6th of a penny per play while fat cats who don't give an actual fuck about the music reap the real money from it.

I hope this band gets to be the opening act for a fitting and way bigger band. at least that's how I discovered loads of new stuff. that and sputnikmusic. fuck spotify.

What's the bigger issue, a corporate streaming platform that will never have all the music not having all the music
or some consumers being complacent fucks about all the music in the world not belong to the same platform
post rock makes a stand

Huge album. Might be a 5 as well, time will tell. Not sure about the "beat Godspeed at their own game" thing tho, gybe have been doing this for 25 years

Really enjoyed this. First post-rock to keep me thoroughly engaged since dust and disquiet, i suppose.

this is one of the best post-rock records of the decade imho. the production is sweet, the second acoustic track is my go-to to sleep this year
Doesn´t sound like gybe, so no idea who decided to throw in the comparisons.

also a big fuck to spotify, its shitty quality, singles mentality and algorithmic playlists matchmaking.
