Is tough to locate flaws indeed
The songwriting here is almost unreal

"I was referring to Gyro!"
i just don't get the appeal of his early stuff mang. not a fan of how stripped back a lot of it is since the vocals are a bit of an acquired taste. at the bottom of everything is one of my least favourite songs of all time

Ahhhhhh that’s on of my favorite bright eyes songs. Quote the opening to my gf in far too many conversations: we love you very very very very very much!

Nah it’s perfect. We will not see eye to eye on this. I am glad you enjoy his later discography though!

Gawd I love comet song so much. Really happy to see an 81 on Metacritic, it's been like 15 years since BEs got this much love. The Facebook groups im in are going wild for this record. I try to see Oberst on each tour and I'm so bummed they might not get to tour this record. I imagine Walcotts horns from this album would blow my head clean off live.

Yeah this album would be absolutely nuts live. I'm so glad it's getting love, it deserves it. Every single song here has a moment that makes me remember it. For example the part where the guitars ramp up in Just Once in the World has been stuck in my head all day and it's not even that big of a hook, it's just a cool instrumental moment. The actual highlights here, by comparison, are mind blowing.

Sowing can tell me if I’m way wrong, but at times this puts me in mind of a more musical/produced I Need A New War, which was my AOTY last year. Not what I expected but I have a limited Bright Eyes knowledge. I’m having a terrific year too when it comes to music, a bunch of surprises and still lots to anticipate, my current top 10 is very malleable

That comparison isn't far off. If you take the orchestral parts of it, such as Indications, and ramp it up with even more drama and cinematic appeal, then it would sound a lot like this album.

Also FWIW Pan and Broom is def not the worst song on here as some others have purported. It's in the lower half of this album somewhere, but Tilt-A-Whirl and Hot Car in the Sun are both less memorable. Worst song here is still like a 4/5 though so whatever.

Sowing - I'm with you, buddy. This album blew away my expectations and I'm just loving it. I'm generally thinking about it when I'm not listening to it. It's made me dust off all my old Bright Eyes records and get all warm and fuzzy. It's been awesome.
