Haha, I remember that rating drop. DT has never been my top pick, but it'll always be among their best.

"DT has never been my top pick, but it'll always be among their best"

never an album fell out of grace in my mind faster than DT - heard it once or twice and loved it but with each subsequent listen, its true colors were revealed to me, just another dumb metal album from the 90's, packed wonderfully and wrapped in a ribbon of pretentiousness

i stayed away ever since

@rock

I love that comment. The honest disgust is almost palpable, lol.

"Serenity" also has those loops around the 3 minute mark that remind me of "Colony" from In Flames.

The only problem with Draconian Times is the weak sound when compared to their records in the '00s (Requiem) and 10s (Tragic Idol, The Plague Within) contemporary standards, but then again Paradise Lost sort of fixed it by releasing Tragic Idol.

It's really nice how some of the catchier moments have a certain swagger not too different from their poppier albums. Like say Forsaken's chorus could fit in One Second if less metal

the only problem with Draconian Times is that it has no problems

I would have swapped Ending Days or Hope Dies Young with Hear the Night and Defiler. There is more diversity with the former, but the album loses some momentum there IMO.

Ending Days is probably my second favorite on this one after a couple of listens.

Anyway, I saw some of you wanted to get into the band, and I'd always wanted to make a proper, comprehensive Paradise Lost playlist, so here it is for anyone that's interested:

The only album that's not represented here is Lost Paradise, but you can go listen to Frozen Illusion for that I guess. I hope someone at least will find it useful and fun.

The bonus tracks are really good, but I wouldn't switch them with anything from the main album.

@Storm

Interesting list there; I see you went with some deep cuts.

@Evo thanks man, appreciate it. They have a stellar list of bonus songs over the years, I feel like I'd be remiss not to include some

Been listening to this for awhile, very solid. Catchy, evil in parts, sad. Very memorable songwriting.
