Nearing Q4 of 2020 and solidifying some of my 5's. This one was highly unexpected for me, but it just has so much damn charm and inimitable character. Her voice, the lyrics, and the simplicity of it all make it feel like it was made by a female Dylan. Just phenomenal.

some of it is a little forgettable but the highlights on this record are really great, I've been enjoying it lately
I've got "Lilacs" and "Fire" in regular rotation

this album is getting a crazy amount of year-end acclaim after flying relatively under the radar when it was released.
can't say it's undeserved but it feels more like overdue acclaim for the artist in general, as if reviewers decided waxahatchee had been consistently great for so long and therefore this was her year to receive over-and-above praise, despite this not being her best album. i've seen the same thing happen this year with perfume genius.

That's strange. Can't Do Much was the catchiest and most immediately enjoyable song here for me and it took time for the rest to grow.
