I mean, it certainly does sound like a worse slipknot, that's pretty accurate

The only thing this album's tone and production is worthy of is a class action lawsuit from every unfortunate soul who had to sit through this dribble.

This is legitimately cutting edge and innovative. If you can't hear it, I'm sorry, you're just basic.

You don't have to like this record, but it at least deserves respect for how it differentiates itself in the genre.

Lmao no. This album is certainly edgy, but it's only innovative if you haven't been paying attention to the genre over the last 2-3 years. I've said it multiple times before, but the band is packed with talented musicians who are victims of their own obsessive attempts at 'experimentation'. They also seem to have one of the most obnoxious fanbases in modern heavy music.

Respecting the genre is a different matter than respecting this plagiarising piece of shit record that sits on gimmick to stand out... add a fucking terrible production and a terrible medley of ideas thrown together and the rest sort of talks volumes.

Calling someone basic for not liking this does not somehow make this a good (or even passable listen). Please consider your own level of basicness sir.

I never said you were not allowed to like like the record. In fact I even mentioned that as a caveat.

Regardless of how you feel about the production, it's different. If anything is plagiarized, it's other bands in the scene that have been trying to ape aspects of Code Orange's sound since forever came out. Nobody in metal, especially since this release, are even in the same stratosphere as what these guys are executing stylistically from a production standpoint.

Look at JPEGMAFIA. That guy is innovating within his scene. I don't find his music particularly listenable, but it's clear that many people love his sound and I can respect his forward thinking approach to creating music.

There is nothing wrong with a band being obsessively experimental. If anything, hardcore could use that. I could care less about the fanbase. It's about the music, not the peripherals.

All I heard was a gimmick that a nu-metal/hardcore tried to employ.

I don’t hear anything experimental or even really interesting from this record. All I heard was some mediocre hardcore devoid of any personality. There was nothing that stood out from other bands vying for that “heavy band” spot on the radio. Code orange has always been the more embarrassing hardcore bands from their scene that could never seen to rise past being passable on their first release.

Oh and there’s nothing wrong with being any of that either, that isn’t a dig at a band trying to achieve those things. But to label this record as anything but “basic” is laughable.

Code Orange were better on Love is Love. They were more restrained. The sounds here aren't anywhere near as interesting as I Am King either. Digital clipping, copying old riffs that are 'faceblam heavy', and having Jami obsess his repetitive antics aren't fresh.

Code Orange were relatively innovative in 2014, but now they're just trying to push falsely perceived boundaries in an awkward and unsubstantial way. Instead, they should be focusing on honing the sounds off their previous albums that were actually somewhat interesting.

I agree that there is very little restraint here. I like the barrage of shit that comes out of the speakers. I can totally understand why someone wouldn't though.

At this point there is no debate about the innovation and influence Forever had on the hardcore scene. It happened. The sound bands like Vein, Jesus Piece, Loathe, and more, had on their latest records are all examples of the influence Code Orange had.

Sort of. I think some of those bands saw that CO was doing this shit, but many of those bands were already messing around with their sounds in 2014/5 and attempting to implement nu-metal, grunge, and hardcore.
