Someone make a list

I think this might be her 5. Glass and Aventine are close behind.

Really, for me any of the last 3 (which is to say, any but Philarmonics, which I still like, but not as much) could be her best for me depending on the day.

They're all great, but this has a spacious... nebulous vibe to it that I really dig.
|
| |
It's definitely the darkest of the bunch. I dig that approach too.

I mean, you can easily say her last three are pretty spacious, but this almost has an esoteric feel to it.
|
| |
how esoteric could it possibly be if DoofDoof 'gets' it

it features acoustic instruments, full-toned vocals and no-nonsense songwriting so gets enough Doofcred to be above the scope of esotericism (hope the implication of this hits the spot)

Does that mean you disagree? Haha

Oh no lol means that Doofcred is the new esoteric. dunno if I'd agree or not - probably not, but I need to chew this over some more

i dunno there are certain tracks where the atmosphere could be described as a bit ~esoteric~ i suppose, so i get the comment, but those tracks are broken up by some pretty undemanding songwriting and interludes, which is what keeps my rating from going any higher

Granted I just made it through her discog today. Aventine up is all superb+, but this one hits a bit different. Her debut is great, but I don't think it's on the level of the rest.

Avg. still tanking at 3.8, so not too bad I guess.

"i dunno there are certain tracks where the atmosphere could be described as a bit ~esoteric~ i suppose, so i get the comment, but those tracks are broken up by some pretty undemanding songwriting and interludes, which is what keeps my rating from going any higher"
I get that. Could be a purposeful grounding. But I could be connecting dots that aren't there, so who knows.

she strikes me as the type of artist that has been on the verge of transcending the limitations of the 'singer/songwriter' tradition for a few albums now... which makes her a lot more exciting/inventive sounding than many in the legions of cookie-cutter artists that fall under that umbrella. but there are still those few songs that feel like hand me downs which really remove me from any sense of personality that those more inexplicably atmospheric/idiosyncratic songs sustain.
|
| |
it's kind of like how doof is often on the verge of transcending the limitations of being a geriatric sputnik brit with crusty fuck taste by actually diversifying and being open-minded to new things, but then he always has to go and ruin it by saying something like "oi, diddly-dinkly plinker plonk" while 1'ing something he doesn't understand just for show
|
| |
I feel she still has a groundbreaking album in her but it hasn't happened yet, true.
And not gonna lie, I chuckled at that Doof reference
