This has a 69 on metacritic and even Pitchfork didn't hate this

looks like another Sput/Fantano overreaction to me, but we'll see...

I'm kinda confused though.

So they make this album as a way to end their relationship with the music label, but they still promote it as it was made "with the same effort they did american idiot". I don't get Billie's logic.

"I don't get Billie's logic."

It's funny because they're being blatantly insincere but playing it so completely straight that it ends up a zero-sum game for all parties aside from the consumer. There are no real losers here as long as you remember to chuckle at the absurdity of the whole thing.

I expect their next album will be much better. If not, I worry they are done as a good band.

Revolution Radio, though very bland for the most part, was an obvious step-up from the trilogy and gave me hope that they'd get somewhat back on track, but they quickly dashed that hope with this. If this is truly purely a big F U to Warner and they have a proper follow up to RR coming, it may be worth something.

^My hope exactly. I'll be content with another Rev Radio quality album, even if it was a very safe move for them at the time (which still contained some atrocious lyrics *cough Youngblood cough* they need to fix that). Safe Green Day at this point is better than this.

I still hold the overall opinion that Uno is in no way a great album, BUT it is what Green Day needs to be at this point. The band is never going to be the punk side of pop punk again at this point in their career, so they should just strive to be a pop rock band with a slight tinge of punk which seems to be the direction that Uno chose to take. But then everything after it happened and so it seems that they gave up on that glimmer of hope.
