Is this the chick that Tyler. used to spam lists with? If so, why isn't her face on any of the album art uploaded here anymore?

this review was pretentious as. album is good but its main flaw is being a collection of singles (that are poor to excellent in quality) rather than a cohesive album or statement.

Oh shit it's the cool guy 😎

i disagree that 'irony' was ever a compelling part of PC Music's schtick (it was just fun, pure pop distilled to 80 proof) and i'm automatically wary of people who say they like pop when they mean palatable pop i.e. charli (jesus christ), carly rae et al. i like the album because it's fun. other than that i don't know what 2 tell u

Its not fun at all, tho. Like... It goes out of its way to be not fun.
|
| |
Not sure if PC music is supposed to be satirical but If they do consider this a parody of a certain brand of pop that would be like a rich kid buying a daewoo and putting his Rolls Royce badge on it for the irony, because it’s really no more engaging than the stuff it’s possibly making fun of.
|
| |
@Wines also enjoy a decent amount of pop I wouldn't consider quote-unquote palatable in the Charli/CRJ sense, but wouldn't generally cut the distinction between that and 'fun' + would argue this is in many ways crafted as palatable as, if not moreso than, Charli. Disagreed somewhat re. irony bc I think a decent part of that schtick's fun kick came from its irreverence

"this review was pretentious as"
If this is re. first 3 paragraphs, I guess they're my bring-your-own-salt-punch set of Liberties Taken (though I stand by their distinction in different ways of determining value). If this extends beyond, state your claim kiddo. Also I hope you're ready to feel the full force of ramon's comment once the sach comment nuke sets in :[
|
| |
Imma preserve this comment (warts n all) before the ban hits bc it's solid content and this thread has already lost enough sach takes to be virtually incoherent in places:
"album is terrible, it's main flaw being that hannah diamond's sound is purely one-dimensional and relies on hamfisted allusions to pop-music tropes of past
there is that element of supposed 'irony' that comes with pc music and their whole schtick, but ultimately, if the music is as engrossing as a piece of blank paper, and with the longevity of a stick of butter left out in the sun on a 100 degree day, it's hard to claim that it's a deliberate effect (who would want to release a piece of shit purely for the sake of being able to say, 'yeah it's shit, i know, that's why i released it')
review is also terrible, but that's because it goes nowhere and says nothing -- it feels more akin to the histrionics of a toy-deprived toddler than the writings of a 'music reviewer'
nonetheless, it manages to 1) cover more ground, and 2) more effectively conjure a feeling (beyond detached boredom) than the album
all-in-all, AGs production is PlAAAAAAAYYYYYYED out, hannah can hardly write a tune, and when it's 5 years past this sound's use-by date, it's hard not to look at reflections as a scrapbook of regrettable memories, rather than the swansong it set out to "

Sach doesn't even like pop who cares
His takes are as predictable/played out as he claims this is, could've swore he wrote the exact same thing about other pop releases
Never trust a braindead stalinist that sticks datura leafs up his nose and talks to door knobs

i dunno, there's something to be said about the gentrification of PC music's sound and the poptimistic values and ideals, and how they relate to queer culture, late-era capitalism and consumer culture.
I don't. Cuz i don't listen to enough of this sorta music to have a say, nor do i form part of the culture. But it's an interesting topic, for sure.

Queers love bright bubbly sounding shit, pop music breeds consumerism and uh this is a shit album.
In fact it’s just a comp

concrete angel...she kinda goes off there...
|
| |
yeah concrete angel is clearly the best song here its not really close
|
| |
his production is the only thing of any worth here though - concrete angel seems to be the most beloved track and I agree it’s the best but imagine it without the vocal manipulations etc it would be utterly boring af so I see this as being his album not hers
|

Yeah I feel that criticism there’s not much else to say about it anyway

"This has such a good lonely atmosphere"
I think the icy production intensifies that feeling, I cant remember a pop release that sounded so sad
