I'm torn...

The delicious post-ironic irony of digging a nu-metal band for a terrible joke no one's ever gonna notice is not lost on me, I assure you.

This is tough, I need a moment.

The fact that you don’t know what the point of “What is this?” was and use it as a way to criticize this release tells me you don’t know shit about swans, gira, or the band’s typical MO.

Or maybe he should just judge this record solely based on the music presented and assign it a score reflecting his own level of enjoyment.

yeah obviously you can’t judge an album without knowing the full autobiographical history of the band and every single member therein

It's also essential to know that Gira was eating bacon with honey sauce the day he wrote Poopsucker. Becauser context is important.

Though there are more similarities than I realized. This reminds me a lot of what you’d get if you too Angels of Light and blended it with The Glowing Man.

I don't like Angels of Light so that explains a lot

I forgot how awesome The World Looks Red/Black is. Probably a top 10 Swans song for me. Frankie M, too.

"The fact that you don’t know what the point of “What is this?” was"

What?

"and use it as a way to criticize this release"

What?

that's doesn't really make sense, yeah. You were off to mention this being not talked-about, though, as everyone not on Sput knows about it. Sput's kinda dead-er rn.

I live on sput, so I really haven't seen any major hype for this.

Maybe one day I'll leave this dripping wet cave of a site, just for one day.

Still kind of feel the lead up to the other albums had a lot more momentum behind them at the start, but I semi-future-proofed the review with the final paragraph just in case.

For a new version of this band (in the words of Gira), this fits nicely into his discog between 2012-2016. Why didn`t he just carry on with the same line-up?

Cause he wants to be special.

I kind of get it though, gotta keep the people's interest somehow.

Though this time it's kind of backfired.

Nah it sounded like the creativity was falling behind, repeating ideas. Best to not feel like you're churning out material for the sake of it.
