Holy duly, is this really happening?!

I think Sowing was right on the money that this is mostly Damage meets Chase This Light, but with better songwriting. Also, "Recommit" could fit fit anywhere on Futures and "Congratulations" could have been easily included in either Integrity Blues or Futures, next to songs like "Nothingwrong" or "Pass The Baby". Most of these riffs do remind me of earlier JEW, which is pretty cool. Not disappointed at all, honestly.

I'm downloading now. I've already pre-ordered it so I've no shame

Man I'm curious to see what everyone else thinks. I'm really, really digging this in my second listen.

First listen is a 3.5. Might go up. I think the production let's down some great songwriting. Too much going on in the mid frequencies and not enough bass. That's my first impression.
Recommit is the clear highlight for me although Congratulations is the best Tool song released in 2019

I hated the production on 555 at first. It grew on me. I think the rest of the album will when I get used to it.

Criminal Energy is easily one of their best rocker tracks. Similar vibe to Nothingwrong for me, and I love that song.

On my second listen with different headphones. Enjoying it a lot more. Delivery is beautiful. Criminal Energy rips. I think the opener is unfortunately really underserved by the production... It was really powerful in live clips but I'm not getting that here.

Don't like the production on One Mil. Same with the title track--loved the live recording that a friend of mine took, but the studio version isn't living up as yet. I have demo-itis.
This might be a 4. Most of my first listens start at 3.5 regardless where they end up. I'll stop spamming the comments now lol.

Yeah Criminal Energy has one of their best solos, for sure. And also yes, 555 is a standout in context of the album and it would have not hurt if they included another song like that.

Interesting. I liked that this doesn't sound as lazy (for lack of a better term) as Damage in terms of production nor as polished as CTL.

These guys are always a pleasant listen and this album is no exception.

Damages production sounded like a full, fleshed-out Jimmy eat world production with a blanket over it. Surviving sounds crisp and clean, yeah, but not as full or fleshed-out. It really is stripped back. Not all the songs though. Delivery and Recommit are perfect in their production. So is Love Never.

Just my first impressions and they will change a lot I'm sure. Damage started out at 3.5 for me. Recommit is so lovely. They really channeled the progressive rock aesthetic on those last two songs

Also, along with reusing a melody from Jen in All the Way (Stay), they reuse melodies from My Enemy in Congratulations. I don't mind though, neither were album tracks.

Yeah I see what you're saying. Production hasn't been an issue with any of their LP's, anyways. And even though I think Damage isn't as well produced as other records I think it's massively underrated and prefer it to CTL and Invented. I might like this as much.

Alrighty! My first listen was very promising. Sowing is right that it's not as emotionally moving as Integrity Blues, but as a counterpart to that record, a straightforward, no holds barred, honest to goodness rock album? Wow is it good. Congratulations is awesome, definitely met my expectations. Criminal Energy takes me back to Bleed American days.
Delivery might be my pick for early favourite. Again, they marry power with memorable and well written melodies like no other. I think Recommit is the only one I wasn't sure of. Oh, Diamond is another one I was blown away by. I don't think Jimmy has ever pulled a key-change before. One Mil is fun too. Bottom line is, summer is here and I'm gonna jam this nonstop lol

That key change... I need to get used to it because it didn't sound like them. Recommit was the only song that I fell in love with on first listen. On second listen, it was Delivery. I can't see how it's possible not to love Recommit. It feels like this is an album where nobody will agree on their rankings because it's so consistent.

Recommit blew me away on first listen. Also good catch on Diamond. All killer no filler, for sure.
