Yeah Bored of Being Sad was by far the best song, imagine a song on an easy listening pop rock album actually having a hook!
Huperzine is definitely the best Owl City song I've ever heard so it has that going for it

jamming again and i am so disengaged man. i dont even like bored of being sad that hook is also pretty boring. maybe a 2.5
also this kinda explains things i think:
"Nathan Hardy: We had actually talked about just releasing singles, but I think that people in this realm of music like albums and it gives an opportunity for a PR push and narrative surrounding a larger release. We had one album left on our deal with Pure Noise, plus we had also publicly implied that we were gonna be doing a whole record, so we were just like, “let’s hash it out.” But if “Circling The Drain” hadn’t done as well as it did – it became a crowd favorite live and it streamed really well – we may have been reconsidering whether we should just put out more singles. Instead, it was, “let this be the blueprint of a general direction.""
sounds like they werent even planning on an album until the singles did well

Portals is such a throwaway intro track. Felt like I was in church listening to it

starting to really get tired of singles bands releasing obligatory full lengths with this "ah well i guess we should release a record" mindset, it's such a waste of everyone's fucking time lol

Yeah... not the greatest reasons for putting an lp out. Even if the primary motivator is "let's finish this record deal" and you put out a low-effort stinker to do so, you're tainting your brand/legacy in the process. And it's a shame cause I actually liked some of the more poppy electronic/synthy textures they were playing with, feels like they could've done better

Yeah Jay that song is SO BAD, I genuinely thought Tidal had screwed up uploading the album or something, can't believe that's a bonafide Microwave track lmfao

I thought it was gonna go somewhere, or do anything to not sound like a straight-up praise jeebus opener, but then the next song just kinda started

Truly so baffling but in the worst way imaginable lol

And on top of that the track that follows is a mind-numbingly boring single. it’s like they’re wanting us not to like the album lmao

Okay I thought I was being too much of a hater but it seems most agree the opening 3 song stretch is rough lol

upon rejamming i would agree the opening run does enter into bad territory (i evaded the lyrics first few spins but they are horrid). i would also throw bored in there altho y'all seem to think its "the good one"
i can't find any song i like : (

These dudes have always struggled with having memorable vocal melodies tbh, makes sense that they'd focus on the weakest aspect of their sound for an album none of them wanted to make. A real recipe for success
