New one is awful. I was over it when they decided to use "ur beautiful when ur drunk" as the hook on the second or so song.

Yeah not really a fan of what they're going for with the new sound. The best moments on Artificial Void is when they went harder and more energetic. And now it's just slightly heavier Polyphia with vocals that aren't great. Also yeah that second track is awful.
Manuel is a super talented musician but there's something missing in the songs he writes.

I think he nailed his sound on this album. With how Gold sounds, I feel like the best possible outcome going forward would be if he found a vocalist for the band instead of doing the vocals himself. He should just be focusing on songwriting (excluding lyrics) and playing guitar.

hard agree, also the new stuff is pretty lame if I'm honest, sounds like Billie Eilish meets Polyphia

I enjoy it as something to turn my brain off to, but not much more. Billie meets polyphia isn’t far off

the good songs on this album are really good but the meh ones are VERY meh and forgettable, I'd say there's a 50/50 split between songs I like and songs I think are meh on here

Yeah I def need to finish this one

I think the new album is only bad from a "these guys made Covenant and Artificial Void" angle. I've listened to runs of tracks a few times now from Gold and when my brain is off and I'm not overanalyzing it, it's great fun poppy metal-lite. Guilty pleasure fun.
Manuel is incredibly talented. I think his voice can hit just right in a lot of contexts. And here he's clearly making the music he wants to make and enjoys making.
The problem starts when you are processing the actual lyrics or expect a metal album.
For me, if I can hear what a vocalist is singing and the words are clumsy or simple, I cringe and never want to put it back on. There's a lot of that here lol.
I'm a big lyrics guy. I think if you have all the time in the world to express yourself in a composed piece of art it should be polished to a shine lyrically. At this point I kind of do expect poetry, because so much modern metal lyricism is. So this stands out quite a bit for the wrong reasons in that department.
Or, if your lyrics are down-to-earth relatable, they'd better sound painfully earnest and raw, and they don't here.
But stylistically I can't fault them. If they made yet another djenty album I'd listen to it 2-4 times, give it a "4" on Sputnik, and then probably forget about it amongst a sea of similar music. So props for trying something new because really it could be worse.

Joke's on you, my expectations are low regardless of their chosen genre. . . . .

Gold has some tracks that are halfway decent, but way too many ideas that fall flat and sound boring. Shame because I like Manuel's style of playing. Deadrose was their best, need more of that

I have no doubt that the band is talented. After all, the talent bar in general has risen incredibly over the past several years, with plenty of groups having incredible musicians behind them. It just never translates to their songwriting.
They'd be better off fully committing to pop honestly, shave off the shoehorned djent nonsense/prog metal crap. Coletta could make it work, so could these dudes.

wow this band is fucking trash
erra in the similar bands section gave me hope but this shit is beyond salvageable
terrible vocals, self-fellating directionless guitarwork, unimpactful drumming - this thing is thanos of modern progressive genericore, collecting every infinity stone of trademark smarmily tacky genre tropes
