This was a comfortable 3.7 until the headasses showed up
Name a more dynamic duo than contribs and despising this album for some inexplicable reason.

Ah yes, my bad. Besides bloc and making fun of Aaron Gillespie.

I'll avoid passing judgement here since I think listening to this and giving my subsequent rating would only fan the flames. However, to lump all the detractors in one group seems rather misguided. There are certainly valid reasons why people, regardless of their position, would dislike this album. Plenty of non-contributor users have voiced their displeasure.
I've made my stance on prog-core known so I don't think it needs to be repeated. Suffice to say, the genre is limited per its conventions. If putting forth that viewpoint makes me an inconsiderate 'headass' then I suppose that's that.

The us vs them happening in this thread is....lol like alright then

You can dislike the album, but to absolutely despise it and give it a 1? That's a little too much. I would even understand a 2 or whatever lol

Nah, it doesn't. Because that's an understandable viewpoint and I thank you for explaining. Lets all agree that this album isn't for everybody (not just contribs yes) and leave it at that. My brain has just been trying to process how this is even close to a 1... The counterhype really murdered this album's #1 spot. 2 or a 2.5 is understandable at least if you hate the nu metal stuff.

I get it, trust me, because I've been there: a release grabs your attention, you love it, you find other people that love it--then the rest of the public comes. You watch the average drop and drop and it gets frustrating. It's the ebb-and-flow cycle of hype and out-of-the-loop confusion (consider the people listening to this who have never even heard Northlane before but are now tuning in because of the excitement).
Users don't necessarily engage in counterhype on purpose, it's something that occurs due to disconnection from the material/band as a whole/the music. Some people just found this poor or average and probably would have done so even if this album had no excitement going for it.

Mars for the contributor of the year award.
For real tho, that was beautifully explained.

Crappy feeling for sure. Oh well. I knew this album would get at least some hate because... Well, it's a Northlane album with Marcus. Shame cause he absolutely killed it on here in my honest opinion.
I'm just glad this is getting serious attention. Hate or not.
Yeah Mars, nicely said. [3]

Mars I think you should review this album

Tbh I generally dislike djenty shit and I’m pretty average to this band’s early stuff but this one just does something for me I dunno
I really like the electronic and industrial elements regardless of what other industrial band did it first. Altogether way more fun than anything else the band has done

Also stop complaining about the old guy leaving it’s been years now

Believe it or not my rating actually went up while I was reviewing this. Yes, it's still a 1/5 and it deserves that score (hell, you can even take the 'imo' stance) but considering I dropped 800plus words on how woe bad this album is I don't really need to keep repeating myself. I didn't rate this 'harshly' because it was getting a positive reception. I rated it accordingly because this album's a detriment to modern metalcore in design, mastering, execution and songwriting which includes some of the hesitations mentioned by Mitch in an earlier comment.
Mars has basically summarized the ebb and flow of rating neutralism that's happening

"Mars I think you should review this album"
Not sure what else I could add to the conversation, but I appreciate the sentiment. This style of music by-and-large isn't for me, but by the same token I don't see myself hating it as much as others; it'll probably feel more like a status quo situation to me.

Nocte what do you go to when you want to listen to modern metalcore
Or any metalcore for that matter

Just read that the band produced this themselves, they did a really good job with the synths incorporation. I think the overall production sound great too now that I think about it

enjoyment (or not) of this album depends in large part on your reception towards the nu-metal cheese. the heaviness is either fun or very forced, i personally found myself enjoying the more atmospheric aspects (plus marcus's cleans but not his harshes) but the downtuned chugging is just a bit...much. there's some dissonance in realizing that this isn't a parody or homage of (nu-metal, cyberpunk, etc.) tropes but seemingly a very sincere, serious effort to incorporate those elements
