hey GL! appreciate you chiming in - genuinely always on the hunt for constructive criticism and would love some feedback as to where my review falls short if you'd be interested in giving it. no complaints about Granite's review, and I published late in part to give it a chance to roll through the feature queue, just wondering :]

I'm sorry I don't take directions from someone a year removed from undergrad.

Unless she's hot, in which case, maybe.

My reasons for preferring Granite's review are purely subjective, and I feel that I don't have anything to offer you in terms of constructive criticism (I know the main purpose of your comment was to be a cunt, but still). I just prefer shorter, more concise reviews; and judging from your Dedicated review as well a going through some of your others, you seem to prefer writing a short story for each album. Which is fine, it's just not my style.
"I published late in part to give it a chance to roll through the feature queue"
For some reason I don't fully believe this, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.

For what it's worth, this does seem to be the case. In general -- and this is part experience, part conjecture -- a user/contrib review won't be featured where a staff review is in the works unless a) the review is excellent (as in this case), and b) the staff reviewer is consulted and/or offers the feature up (the latter in this case). Again, for what it's worth -- and I'm not convinced it matters too much -- I think Granite is an excellent writer and the amount of (well-deserved) features he gets reflects that well. But I don't think Brostep's comment is intended to be cuntish, and from what I've seen, most of the staff are well-meaning/thoughtful about this stuff. Don't wanna speak for us all, but no harm intended, not a fan of this whole user/contrib/staff divide -- not just because this is a hobby / passion thing for most of us (most of the site, I mean), but because anyone who does feel a sense of entitlement about it (staff or contrib or user) is a bit silly.

was this discussion necessary
|

I mean, as necessary as any non-music discussion on a music form -- which is to say, yes, if people engage in it.

Not as good as Emotion of course, but I still love a lot of this š

Yeah, I hated this for a while because I waited what felt like an eternity for it, and then it ended up being not like Emotion and nowhere near as good as Emotion. I'm kinda over that now though, and I can enjoy this for what it is.
