Yeah I love this album so much, and like their other work, I expect it to only grow. Colorless is far and away the best track these guys have ever put together. Won’t be surprised if it’s my SOTY. In fact, really, the stretch from Colorless onto the end is one of their best stretches in their discography.

Haha. I'll give it a few more listens, but so far it reminded me of Death Cab for Cutie's Transatlanticism.

It... what? Transatlanticism?
That, to me, is a bizarre reference. I'm interested why you think that.

It just happened during the first few tracks. Probably mainly because of the piano melodies and the voice.

Transatlanticism? I don't hear that at all, not in any of the tracks here.

I can just barely see where insomniac is coming from - both singers have high pitched vocals, both albums use piano - but outside of that the comparison stops for me. This album is way more electronically inclined, more ambient/atmospheric, whereas Transatlanticism is more grounded and rock-oriented. Also Blushing is way better.

It was on a purely superficial level, as I was listening for the first time. By the end, I realized this isn't close to Transantlanticism.

Oh, neat! This should fill the Lydia-shaped gap in my newer music releases nicely. Liquor was... underwhelming.
I guess I should add that this isn’t because I think the two bands sound similar, they just both serve similar functions for my listening purposes.

Lydia is one of the bands I always associate Copeland with as well, for whatever reason. Copeland has always been more consistent, but I think with this they may have hit the heights Lydia hit with Illuminate (even though I also have Ixora at a 5, but still).

Ehh I’ve never cared much for Lydia tbh. Never really saw the correlation. Copeland makes me think of Deas Vail or Mae. I guess maybe because they were important all at a similar time in my life. I’ll always think Shoreline by Deas Vail is the best Copeland song they never wrote.

Yeah, like I said, I’m not really sure why I associate Lydia and Copeland. I think that I kind of discovered them at the same time and were a good gateway to a lot of my current taste of music. Funnily enough, Deas Vail and Mae are also in the same category! All of them share that lush instrumentals and sort of indie pop sentiments, all with their own twists.

I listened to this alb for the first time yesterday. And when I got home there was a piece of mail addressed to my apartment for a “Sean Copeland” and no one by that name lives in my apt. Spoooooky.

The vocals are about the only similarities between them and Polyenso. Polyenso hasn’t ben good for years.
