It sounds far better in the bedroom on a soundbar than my AT headphones in public; I guess this brings new meaning to the word "homely".

Still sounds like a baby boy ass album on my speakers tbh

It's nothing remarkable, but it's improved enough where I can pay more attention to the music for once. If I had bought this album, this would sting significantly more than URO's first release did; at least here I can tell what isn't being produced here properly. Making my mind up on a score is challenging. Why they didn't have Tue Madsen on speed dial is beyond me.

You would think that w/Tue Madsen doing DSS, The Unravelling, and ARCHE, that they found their Steve Albini and not fuck w/changing personnel by hiring some noob to try to capture their sound as best as possible. Even Jens Bogren mixing AND mastering would've gotten my approval had Tue not be available for w/e reason cause I loved how the Hageshisa To single sounded. Problem is with the bonus disc, Jens DID mix the remakes but the asshat who did the Ningen single and main disc royally fucked up Jens' mixing by botching the mastering.

Agreed.

I realized by the 6th listen the only song I actually hate is Zetsuenai. What a waste of time that song is. The progression from Keigaku no Yoku to Ranunculus is much more effective, and my copy is better for deleting it from the tracklist.

Listening under bearable EQ gave a bit of perspective; this will be the other "fun" album I throw on by them (the other being Six Ugly, which was perfect to loop for CS: Source back in the day).

I can understand where calc is coming from, although I can't ever recall straight up disliking an album cos of it's production.

Sure, it might hamper my enjoyment slightly but generally if the songwriting is there I can dismiss it.

In comparison to previous releases...yeah it ain't lol, at least from this early perspective. Downfall is the new Berry/Pink Killer despite the outro sequence being stunning. Also holy shit Lil Kyo dropping bars during Values is the biggest laugh I've had in a while.

The middle part is filler to the nth degree but minus that I have a lot of fun with Values.

I had a long conversation with someone who loves this band and he seemed rather shocked at the thought of this album not being all that great. I guess if you like the band - you might enjoy this album more than others. At times listening to this was a painful experience and turning my volume down was essential for my sanity and wellbeing. It's a really wacky, weirdly produced record that feels forced at times but I don't know that's just me. Maybe I'm being too harsh but don't get me wrong there are definetely some solid tracks in this mafak.

The electronics on here feel reminiscent of dep- disassociation to me. I like some of it, but I think they could have been so much more if they'd put their minds to it

If they went a calmer route for most of an album and put electronics into their sound that would be so dope. That's far more likely to produce great heavy stuff now.

“Downfall is the new Berry/Pink Killer despite the outro sequence being stunning.”

I knew there was something I was missing along with the comical sounding hyperdrive black metal tremolo picking on top of Kyo's gibberish scats throughout the song that makes it the bane of the album (next to Values), and you just answered it for me Calc.

@calc

I think at this point that would never a great route to take.

@Acme: lol you're welcome

@Dr: I think you missed a word or something because I'm not sure that's a positive or negative statement.

gah, sorry I did it on my phone at work lol.

I think that would have been an awesome route for the band tbh, and it would have continued their evolution rather than feeling like a stagnant nod to past-times.
