Cheers Dewinged. And yeah, I can totally see how this would brush some people the wrong way.

So apparently Saturnalia is shortened on the vinyl...

I've just got mine and it doesn't sound like it's been edited.

Say10’s verses sound so much like Gary Numan’s “Here In the Black”

Is that so Gonzo? Well that's a relief. I looked on Discogs and someone said it was shortened

I tried making an album out of Born Villain, The Pale Emperor, and Heaven Upside Down.
Deep Six
No Reflection
The Devil Beneath My Feet
Saturnalia
Third Day Of A Seven Day Binge
Murderers Are Getting Prettier Every Day
Threats of Romance
Slave Only Dreams To Be King
Kill4Me
Born Villain
Heaven Upside Down
The Mephistopheles Of Los Angeles
I'd rather just listen to The Pale Emperor but Heaven Upside Down and Saturnalia have grown on me a lot. Born Villain is definitely the weakest of his three latest albums.

Listening to the album for the first time rn. Just through Saturnalia now and I don't get why anyone would consider this to be weaker than Pale Emperor. Unless you didn't listen to Manson before the damn Tainted Love cover. This really takes me back to his Antichrist Superstar days, which is a damn good thing, especially since it's been 21 years!

Funny you mention his Tainted Love cover since Tattooed In Reverse is far closer to sounding like that cover than anything from Antichrist Superstar.
I mean I can see the Antichrist Superstar comparisons in songs like Revelation 12, We Know Where You Fucking Live, and the chorus of Say10. But that's about it. The latter two songs are pretty good but Revelation 12 is just far too repetitive to justify its length.
Beyond that, The Pale Emperor is just a more consistent album with FAR better lyrical content. Heaven Upside Down is growing on me a bit. I'd say it's definitely better than Born Villain which I initially put this on par with.

"I don't get why anyone would consider this to be weaker than Pale Emperor."
Because this album is primarily derivative; TPE pushed him into new ground.
Just my opinion, of course.

Album does seem a cynical attempt to attract a new generation of rebellious ‘Halloween kids’
‘Pale Emperor’ just felt like the album Manson should be making at this stage of his career

Especially when he isn't even creating relevant lyrics for this kind of music.
I can tell you the lyrics on this really, really disappointed me on this. I was hoping for some really scathing messages; they're tepid at best.
|
| |
I mean...
"I write songs to fight and to fuck to
If you wanna fight, then I'll fight you
If you wanna fuck, I will fuck you
Make up your mind or I'll make it up for you"
We can never come back from lyrics this atrocious.

I don't know, I think his bottom dollar was High End of Low; the lyrics on that album can be horrendous at times.
|
| |
I don't doubt that at all, I just couldn't bear anymore of that album after a few listens. By far, the worst album he ever put out.
