Yeah, they play this straight in terms of theme/atmosphere. Much more crushing and not as carefree. Both albums are amazing in their own rights. Sometimes I prefer this and sometimes I prefer the S/T.

I can see where people would dislike the shift in direction they made, as the post-metal tendencies are muted in comparison for a more light, party-centric sort of approach. There are merits to be found in that craziness as far as I'm concerned, especially when it amounts to moments of explosive creativity ("Piss Soaked" being the shining example).
This is more metalcore/post-metal without the later rock/hard rock influences and it's very serious in tone. Some of the riffs on this are just so damn meaty ("Monkey on my Back" fuckin' goes)
