I really hate the vocal phrasing on a lot of this, it was tolerable on Language but some of this is just ridiculously pretentious word wise. Half the time he could have said the same thing with shorter wording phrasing and it would have meshed a lot better with the rhythmic patterns of the other musicians. Overall its a solid album, but I think Language is quite a bit better

language is for sure better. ppl that like this better don't like the deathcore elements of this band, obviously

To be fair, that album cover sure as hell looks like it belongs to a death metal band.

Sigh, they used to be deathcore :'(

It could definitely win the prize for the most misleading cover of the year.

Haha agreed with the comments above. Album art looks like something a trendy dissonant dm band would use i.e. more black and white circle-esque nonsense

Saw an interview with vocalist saying artwork is to symbolize the colorless feeling of the album, and the feeling of death, its the opposite to language

I guess he applied that to his vocals too because it sounds like he's bored to death.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand The Contortionist. The music is extremely progressive, and without a solid grasp of music theory most of the notes will go over a typical listener's head. There's also The Contortionist's djent style, which is deftly woven into their music - their style draws heavily from early jazz metal, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these influences, to realize that they're not just musical- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike The Contortionist truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the genius of The Contortionist's song Relapse which itself cryptically calls back to the title track, Clairvoyant. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Cameron Maynard's genius unfolds itself on their record player. What fools... how I pity them. And yes by the way, I DO have a The Contortionist tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.

"Saw an interview with vocalist saying artwork is to symbolize the colorless feeling of the album, and the feeling of death, its the opposite to language"
well, he got the colorless part right
|
| |
Actually it should be "colourless" so therefore he got that wrong
