Haha, well, some albums come up very often as ''obscure'' recommendations, and this is one of them. If you check the comments on the full album video on YouTube they all say something along the lines of ''thank the algorithm''.

Is that why this has 100+ ratings?
I thought it was because he passed away in 2016
Maybe it's both

"are yt recommendations a common coordinated effort to get japanese jazz records popular?"
Maybe not all Japanese jazz records, but this one is everywhere if you listen to anything from Japan, same thing with Plastic Love, that album with the cat and For You.

Exactly Drifter. Agreed hard. YouTube gets it very right sometimes.
Do you have some nice newsletters that I could try, plane? Sounds interesting!

I've found a couple good albums through Youtube recs (this one included) but there's plenty of other sources of recommendations also. Not that Youtube is bad, just there's so many ways to get recs, whether online, asking from a friend, etc.
|
| |
I don't hate YouTube recommendations, a good number of then are good, but I don't remember finding anything great.
|

Maybe you're looking for the wrong genre. If you try to find indie rock/emo or underground gangsta rap it's the goat way of finding stuff

Youtube as the best way to find music? Heck no.
Discogs you fools
|
| |
YouTube usually recommends anything Japanese, math rock, noise rock, black metal and some East European stuff. So, uh, maybe?
|
| |
I don't even know how I find new music tbh. I just find it.

No man, discogs has sometimes led me to finding good things, but YouTube beats discogs easily as far as recommendations go

But dude, Discog's recommendations are way more predictable. They always go to Aphex Twin or Boards Of Canada for electronic music, Burzum for BM, Thom Yorke and Red Hot Chilli Peppers for anything indie/rock-ish, etc.
Don't get me wrong, almost half my pay finds a new home through Discogs every month, love them to death, but as far as recommendations go they have a lot to learn.

Yeah whenever I get money I either spend it at a record store or on discogs

@Trifolium
No, those recs at the bottom of the page usually suck.
I meant looking at labels and genres. That's the real meal ticket

Dude
Discogs has a really bad genre system lol

Does youtube have a genre system I'm not aware of or something?
