Best thing this band can do on their next album is go the conceptual/epic approach of Agalloch's first 4 albums. There's evidently a lot of inspiration here but ultimately it's just a collection of songs while the Agalloch classic-period albums were much more than that. That's what's holding it back from being higher than a 4 for me.

The musicianship here is above anything that Agalloch ever accomplished, though. I'll give it that. The band is amazingly tight.

@Ocean

I think you nailed it on the head there. The musicianship, songwriting, and emotion is on par with Agalloch for me here, but what holds the album back is that it's ultimately a collection of songs that kind of sort of meshes together into a collage of something meaningful, but nowhere near on the same level of cohesion that Agalloch had in their prime. The songs individually are fantastic but they don't add up to a greater whole. If the next album has a more focused concept, I can't imagine how good it will be. I'm fucking excited for it though.

Damn dude, my balls shot up into my throat at that landing. You ok? The music made me expect something to go horribly wrong... That looks like fun though, how long does it take to fly solo? It might be an attractive suicide option for me.

Flying looks awesome, I often fantasize about flying right into concrete from high altitudes. It looks like a blast bro. Suicide is a beautiful/hilarious thing, let's not discriminate.

Nice. I hate this album too because I compare it to something else. I can't help it, I'm a jive turkey.
