this is too abstract but the songwriting style on this album is like if jack antonoff were good: not that the writers are deploying particularly similar chord progressions or whatever, but that the progressions all feel so formulaic in a non-judgmental sense, as if they have all been fed through the same machine even though their constituent parts they started with are different enough that it's not just the same song over and over. hard to describe. like it's being "quoted," like those melodies and progressions have existed forever. SO sure footed

I think it's cool that she's subverting female rnb tropes as @luci mentioned (the forlorn lover, the seductress), but I don't have many positive things to say about the picture of herself that she does paint for us on this album. Maybe someone else found it more relatable.
Still, the production is on point and its musically cohesive.
