idk, back to the start is really anticlimactic and wildfires cuts out just as it was getting interesting

yeah back to the start for me does nothing, Its too generic.
The original ended with Temporary Peace, what an amazing tune.
Side A is great
Side B is average.

I like back to the start. It's their ode to Wish you were here it seems. Wildfires does nothing for me. All the songs seem to be built on simple melodies without really moving out of the comfort zone. At least DS had some experimentation

You're 7 years too late with that question.

back to the start is a very, very disappointing ending when you consider just how incredible 'take shelter' was from just one album ago. in fact, many of their album closers are fantastic.

Yeah i guess they wanted to finish the album on a feel good positive vibe with the theme of the album
Its like Steven Wilson said, its the sadness and melancholy which is actually the most beautiful - something like that i paraphrase, but its true.
Happy songs trying to be deliberately uplifting dont do much for me.
Melancholic songs i find uplifting!

True, but it's all about the balance. Some times we must allow uplifting music to be uplifting.

i wouldn't say back to the start is particularly positive, just predictable and anticlimactic

The sung title gets stuck in my head after listening every single time, so I'll grant it that. It's also really refreshing after two of their darkest songs in quite a while, so it fits where it stands, but it feels pretty uninspired compared to things like the title track and not as energetic as Endless Ways. Yeah, like I said, I like it but it's nowhere near the Anathema closer standard tbh.

Leaving it Behind into Endless ways is pretty jarring, LiB in particular was a bad way to start this I think.

True, the transition between Leaving It Behind and Endless Ways is kind of sudden, but I still like Leaving It Behind as an opener.
Back To The Start is extremely meh, agreed.
Rest of the album is stunning and up to their usual standard, though (especially the second half).

Leaving it Behind is so dope though

Leaving it Behind is an amazing opener imo, fits the spot just right. Endless Ways is a good second track, too. It's just that the combination of both does not work at all. It's like they wanted it to be similar to the two Untouchable parts or the two Lost Songs on the previous albums which didn't turn out well because of how different the songs were this time around. I like both of them though. Endless Ways is even my favorite on this, with the t/t just after it. The guitar part towards the end of that one is so beautiful, and its 5/4 rhythm loosens things up a bit

Endless Ways is easily the best from this. T/t and San Fran are also really good

Agreed with Omair.
Close Your Eyes, Springfield, and Ghosts are also excellent.

I like the live version of Ghosts more. Springfield is also good, and I love how Anathema always have that experimental song on every album that sounds different to the rest of the album. Close Your Eyes being the one on here
