I actually get where Rodrigo is coming from. Tool were mainstream enough that for guys who hadn't explored music as thoroughly outside of this mainstream consciousness would automatically herald them as masters of music, because they're 'progressive' & 'experimental'. Then you'd have the fans who had explored less well known 'progressive' music & still liked what Tool had to offer.
