This will be at the top I think. I am not too fond of Fake Brain and I can't recall listening to a lot of good metal this year tbh.
I am noticing a trend in the last couple of years with the kind of dm I like. Relatively melodic, consisting of 6 to 7 songs, most songs are long with a couple that are interlude-ish. For example, last year's winner was Blood Incantation's Starspawn. It can't be a coincidence.

Heard the Ensnared album in full, and while I thought it was great I did not see the point in those numerous interludes. They should have either been incorporated into the actual songs or made into actual songs. I was also surprised to see it score quite low on RYM
