^^

A whole record of the psych stuff (Mystery Zone, Who Makes Your Money, Inside Out) from Transference and They Want My Soul is sort of my dream Spoon album.

Though when they find the hook, they make some great pop tunes. I think Transference hit that balance the best out of their discography.

Shotgun, Pink Up, and Whisper are my faves so far but They Want My Soul > this (slightly)

I mean they have at least 3 other albums that are on the same level as this so this is basically par for the course for them.

This might actually be a 5 tbh

Whisper, Can I Sit and Pink Up I downloaded. I might download another one or two if I play those ones enough.

Again this is a case for me (as it is for you with Yellowcard, Sowing) where I throw objectivity out the window, based on my early impressions this is pretty much everything I could possibly want out of a Spoon record.

That said I have a hard time convincing myself this is better than Ga^5 or Kill the Moonlight so if this is going to stay a 5 I'll have to re-5 those ones as well...

Doof this is more or less my equivalent of your Hey Mr Ferryman for this year so far.

Hey Mr Ferryman is this year's Mangy Love for me...it'll probably end up a 4.5 as other aoty candidates emerge

"Spoon have some great songs but they don't release albums full of consistently great songs for me. For my tastes the vocals and lyrics are just functional."
this is essentially why there's a limit to my love for Spoon. i need something more substantive than just sleek attitude from the music

Usually I'd have the same gripe (though Daniel is an excellent vocalist once he grows on you) but I just find their music so euphoric and wonderful. They're pretty much the only one of my top artists for whom lyrics aren't a major draw and for whom I don't really care if the lyrics are subpar as long as the tune is great.
