I get the impression this is exactly what 90% of Opeth fans wanted the new "clean" Opeth to sound like.

probably
really a nice record but a little too straightforward; also too much clipping, as with their first two.

Interesting release. Jinn and Sister are great songs.

Extra grateful to Soen, and Katatonia, for continuing to make such excellent progressive metal when so many giants of the genre have either halted making music or softened their sound, not that there's anything wrong with the latter, but it just happens so often it seems.

I didn't even hear these guys until this year. Great find that's for sure.

Yeah you know the former Opeth drummer is in the band right? And Steve DiGiorgio from Death and Testament?

Album was a total snooze for me at first but it really grew on me. Lyrics are still cheese af but musically its insanely on point.

that main melody in God's Acre (@0:35) gets me every time. the low point of this are the vocals (they're well performed, just not really my cup of tea) and the lyrics. the music is great, if maybe a bit too safe in terms of structures, but the riffs and melodies are on point.

Yeah, I think I want to like this more than I actually enjoy it. A few really good tracks. Fan of Lucidity and Opal. But the vocals and lyrics are the low point, and the songwriting is a bit...homogeneous? Not like it lacks dynamism in a big way, but not a lot stood out. History tells me this is a grower though. Just didn't stick out a ton on first listen. Talented guys though, and I love the production. Good harmonies.

We have a winner.
If Opeth can put out something like this I'm happy.

Yeah this is way better than anything Opeth has put out after Watershed.
