I actually... wasn't that hype on TJoM.
I will accept my 50 lashings now.

"Am I the only one who found Joy to the be their weakest album? I'm kind of confused by the comments saying that this one is not as good as JOM, after just a few listens I already think it is better. I also don't get how the drums are being complained about, I thought they were great."
Completely agree. JOM showed very little focus on song writing. This album has much better flow and the songs have enough variety to keep my attention throughout.

definitely get a Bladerunner vibe from this sometimes

I enjoyed the sense of melody that JOM had more. Idk if its just me, but some of this is not as memorable on the first listen as compared to the aforementioned JOM.

Inner Assassins tho...

This is their best album, imo.

Gonna jam this tonight. The only other album I've heard from these guys is the s/t and it rules.

disappointed by this. they honestly seem to be using variations on the same shtick since weightless. hopefully they progress further and try different territories with future releases

This is pretty cool. I definitely like it more than anything else these guys have done. Feels more organic, less mechanical.

TJoM got boring after a while. I don't see myself ever getting bored of these songs, discovering so much new shit every listen.

Really? I hope it grows on you... I thought their sound evolved quite a bit on here while still sounding like AAL. The last two tracks in particular don't sound like anything they've done.

Still don't think they've ever touched "Inamorata". I always have trouble with a band when it is clear that they blew their load on their debut (Russian Circles with "Death Rides a Horse" imo), but AAL's last album was pretty decent.
My biggest problem with AAL is that when I listen to them I always end up wanting to listen to Cloudkicker's Beacons album more. Looking forward to giving this a shot.

Inamorata was the best one to me on the s/t next to CAFO, but Death Rides a Horse was prob my least favourite off Enter for sure

I think it captured every aspect of who they were and to some extent, still are. They've gotten a lot darker and heavier with their last two releases and reinforced my belief that they aren't really a band to listen to at home. Live they are just on another level, impossibly captivating.
CAFO was great, obviously, and put them on the map. I'll never forget seeing them on BTBAM's "Colors" tour before anyone had heard of them and being absolutely blown away by this guy running around in a fedora pulling out an 8-string and fucking shredding the house down.

for me Death Rides a Horse felt like the odd song of the bunch, felt it didn't flow as well and I remember thinking "Pelican did it better"

Came here to say that I love your GIR avatar, Mercury! Also, nice review.
Personally, I don't think this album compares to Joy of Motion from a production standpoint, but it does have some beautiful passages that I believe require many listens and people will like this more once it sinks in a little.
Joy of Motion is a perfect 5 for me because of production, variety, melody AND technicality, and the album just flows so well. In those regards, I'd give Madness of Many somewhere between 4-4.5, but that could change over time.
