I love the two 'weird' tracks mentioned by Darkwatch.

They are growing on me Evo!

Can anyone rec me a band like this but without the harsh vocals? They'd easily be my favorite if Stanne focused more on singing.

His growls are fantastic, though... Anyway, you may like Paradise Lost (2007-2012 stuff) and modern Katatonia.

Thanks Evo. They're not bad no, but they're just not what I listen to. It's the same reason why I avoid Opeth's earlier work.

don't like harsh vocals? Hard to find the awesome melodies, and definitely hard to find crushing riffs, without those kind of vocals.

I'm just very picky with harsh vocals. On the title track, for example, they don't bother me too much but it's when the dominate the track the I get annoyed. I really enjoy stuff like Killswitch Engage and newer Soilwork.

I used to not like bands like Cannibal Corpse because of the vocals but now they're all I want to listen to lol

I'm still too big a wimp to even go anywhere near grind. When I was a kid I was too afraid to listen to KISS because of Simmons's makeup tbh.

This is quite a nice write-up by (Doug Moore of Pyrrhon fame) on the relevance of harsh vox and how to enjoy them when you're exactly in dfevil085's situation :

Holographic Universe is neat and if you like Soilwork you should be ok with the harsh vocals in that one.
Actually, check Amorphis with Tomi Joutsen (2006 onwards) too; Skyforger would be a great start for you cuz it has the least amount of growls.

And interesting read, especially the versatile drumming and the compositional challenges.
