actually really like A Fleeting Glance and Sorceress 2 its nice that they're ripping off the spacey Floyd type of prog as well as the wanky kind of prog now

i havent really listened to will o the wisp while very concentrated, and i havent listened to the wilde flowers except for small segments. it seems like im one of the few who doesnt like the drum production

Most people seem to think the production is pretty terrible and they are right

Production just seems a bit bass heavy to me. Hardly terrible considering nothing sounds overly compressed and everything is auible, as well as having a good DR and good spacing. It would seem if anyone who isn't Opeth made this Heritage-toSorceress trilogy, it wouldn't be getting slammed nearly as hard as it is.

I cannot believe this album be so weak. I need to check it soon as I can.

I think if this was released by a younger band it would be on the front page of MetalSucks as the "The best 70's prog not from the 70's"

Looking at the latest Opeth albums in a vacuum would definitely make them more favorable. That's why I feel Mikael should've at least dropped the name so the legacy set by their older work wouldn't be hanging over their heads all the time.

Without reading the review again, I read it this morning, probably still half asleep, but I didn't see the word "riff". Ugh, Opeth were so good composing riffs back in the day. Excellent review and thanks.

It's a sad reality that most of these once great artists will inevitably go out not with a bang but a whimper

This review was fun. I get a cheap, perverse thrill from dislikes of this album.

The production makes everything sound like it's being played through a compressed glass bottle.

Yeah. The drums sounds horrible (Axe's playing IS solid, but it's ruined by the production), and sometimes I can't tell the keyboards and guitars apart.

The title track is so guilty of having those particular production issues.

Yep. Terrible idea for a first single imo.
