"and Axe is the best thing to ever happen to the band."
Idk, he's ruined some live performances for me. His obnoxious ghost notes (not even sure you can call them that since they're so pronounced) just kill some songs for me. I get he's trying to be groovy, but control yourself dude

Persephone is a lovely intro to the record but those 'spoken word' moments are so silly, distracting even.

I need to check this. I have high expectations about it.

It's not good, but not horrible. Just really, really scatterbrained, sterile prog rock to me. If you enjoy this, though, more power to you.

That's the impression I've gotten from the singles. I can't call any of them bad, but they lacked passion and didn't sound like Opeth to me. I have yet to hear the full album, but my expectations aren't very high.

"the songwriting is the most cohesive since Watershed. "
That's a weird thing to say, imo. Watershed sounded like a bunch of disparate tracks thrown together to make a compilation record. Those individual pieces were mostly pretty good, nut they don't form a convincing whole.

"Will O is the worst offender, the guitar line is lovely but all that changes in the second half is that the drums come in. Yeah there's a nice little solo towards the end too but cmon really? For a band that prides themselves on multifaceted songs that's just lazy."
I couldn't agree more. The drum arrangement in particular is very weird.
I love the main melody and the mellotron flutes, but it should have been shorter and shouldn't have had drums or a guitar solo.

Maybe you're right, and I could have worded that better. I really do like the flow of this record though, and I don't find it to be that different from Heritage honestly.

I don't understand the complaints about Will O The Wisp, sounded like one of the more straightforward tracks on here imo
