*cough* *cough*.... [tries to control temper]..... how dare you. i respect that you have your opinion and that you backed it up as well as you could. But, all i've gathered from your review is that the more popular an album, the worse it is. Lateralus is possibly one of the most emotional, gripping, and enlightening albums i've ever heard. It grabs you by the balls, thrashes you against the wall, lets you breathe a bit, and then melts your face off with a pure shot of adrenaline and emotion, and leaves you breathless and satisfied.

You have to understand, even if he likes an artist/album, if too many people listen to it, it'll irritate him.

But he does have a point. I don't think this album is the most...anything I've ever heard, but it's damn good.

Good to see someone justifying why they don't like an album, rather than just doing it to annoy. Its actually a really good review.

I love this album though, even if it is overated, so i couldn't disagree with you more.

...Though I am white, I am neither a fan-boy nor a teenager... however, none of that should be a basis for another to completely disregard someone's personal music preferences.

I enjoy this album tremendously and, from what I am reading in this thread, that will indirectly cause people to either think me to be some sort of genius, or some sort of retard. I stood on the fence between rating it between a 4 and a 5... and decided on the 5 shortly thereafter only because when people are going to be asked about Tool, most of them are going to immediately talk about Lateralus. Just as your Pink Floyd discussions will lead toward Dark Side of the Moon (I enjoy the Wall more), and as your Nirvana followers will more noticably talk about Nevermind (I tend to prefer Incesticide personally).

Regardless of what anyone says though, a 2 is a pretty damn low rating for anything outside of your Fall Out Boy or AFI record.

edit: I do agree with you that Get Behind Me Satan was awful though. Truce? This Message Edited On 08.08.07

My favorite record of all time is heralded as the if not one premiere record of the '80s in mostly every case.

I second the "that's funny".

This album is a classic but there really is no great need to wank over it so much. Tool fanboys need to realize there are much better things than Tool.

Long, but I like the review and we agree opimions; but I disagree about the Pink Floyd statement because Pink Floyd has plenty fans who think Dark Side of the Moon is their best. This Message Edited On 08.10.07

I think its rather funny how you demonize Tool fans who defend their stay that this is a great album. Although, you have your opinion...it reaks of bias and hate mainly towards the fans, not the music. It is as if since their influences show through (PF and KC), that that makes them a bad band...Um...do you know any band that doesn't have their influences shine through every album? There hasn't been originality in music in a long time. Tool IS unique, whether you think they are or not.

I still think its funny how you demonize the fans that defend this album. Fanboys, right? Only white teenage guys who haven't experienced anything in life think Maynard is a good lyricist? Dont you think that is a TAD over-generalizing? I think Maynard is one of the best lyricists to ever be in music, period. There aren't many people who will deny this. Plus, the AUDACITY that you have to attack the fans (again) when your name is "Pixiefanyo". I read your review for a Pixie album...you are a HUGE fan boy for them...yet, its okay to write about how great they are, but not Tool...goodness gracious no!

Dude, come on, you are being a HUGE hypocrite. I think your review should be on "why I hate Tool fans that think this album is amazing"
