It's a decent album just nothing new for them, which probably explains the lack of fanfare.

I actually think the first two songs are some of their best material from these past 4 albums. Also their most immersive. Songs like A Little God in My Hands and Oxygen honestly killed the atmosphere on To Be Kind for me. A lot of people have said this, but it sounds more like a culmination of their latest efforts than a step in a new direction, and a reflective approach like that honestly makes more sense to me if this is going to be the last Swans album of this incarnation.

Yeah it's definitely a reflective approach. Finally, Peace is such an enormously satisfying closer regardless.

Agreed. My rating will probably drop to like a 4.5 or maybe a 4 in time but for now this seems like their most consistent and fluid grandiose venture to me. These past three albums have showed a lot of scattershot ideas and I think they all finally harmonized here.

I still like this a lot

Damn this transcends hard.
Much more ethereal than TBK and Seer.

Came here to say the same, clim. There has been a distinct lack of Swans noise, especially considering the two before this.

It's interesting how the last two albums drive expections/reception of this. Some have noted how this is Swans "doing Swans" (and not in those words, but basically)...This is a somewhat true statement, but The Glowing Man has its own sound nonetheless. There is a fluidity here not encountered on TBK or The Seer. Compared to the funky riff driven cuts on TBK and the Dark ambiance on the seer, this seems to float through the headphones to where nothing truly stands out. I understand why people don't care for this, but it is definitely on par with TBK, if perhaps a notch below The Seer.

I loved The Seer and To Be Kind, and to me, this stands way above them both in terms of sheer enjoyability, immediacy, and even intensity. I love the way each song develops; I get chills when the catchier parts finally emerge in "Frankie M." and the title track. The first three songs are by turns beastly and psychedelic. The only track that doesn't do all that much for me is "When Will I Return" and a lot of that has to do with its subject matter and... recent controversies surrounding Gira. Whether or not Gira is innocent is beside the point; the whole story just makes the song sit kinda funny, and it doesn't really seem all that interesting as a piece that transitions between my two favorite tracks.
Album slays though. I can't believe people with the capacity and attention span to enjoy The Seer and To Be Kind could also call this boring. I don't think any of those records are boring, but you'd think if you can handle, and even like, the first two, you'd have no trouble with this one.

Perfect trilogy but for overall enjoyment it would probably go
The Seer > The Glowing Man > To Be Kind

Album Rating: 3.3
My Father is a lot better than this tbqh
Seer > TBK > My Father > > Glowing Mane

Album Rating: 4.0
I was just ranking this trilogy, but My Father does slay.
