Yeah, eh, I think they were mostly uninspired, knew it, and tried too hard.

Not at all. How hard is it to understand that this album needs to grow on you.

Listened to the album like 10 times, that is 10 hours, enough for me to rate, sure it can click out of nowhere 1 year from now. And I am in a Katatonia mood.

My favorites so far are Takeover, Serein, Sanction and Last Song Before the Fade.

This feels like their most mature album from their second era. Yes, there are parts of it that didn't click with me yet, but I'm so glad to get the band back, almost thought they lost all their ideas after DEK.

Just had a few days to digest this album (maybe 5-6 complete listens). This is absolutely a grower that requires multiple listens to truly sink in and stand out. I would argue that this is the least accessible album of the new era Katatonia but is very rewarding with multiple listens. The new drummer and lead guitarist absolutely kill it. Gonna give it some more spins today but I'm very happy with how this turned out.

Agreed it's their least accessible. They said as such in an interview with decibel recently.

Katatonia always needs to grow on me. I always end up loving whatever they put out though

I think this isn't as naturally catchy as previous albums though.

Album won't get better for me. There isn't a single song I really like. It just feels like 'we had to put out an album, so we recorded a bunch of songs in this style'.

Mh :/

@DD Agreed. What do you think about the new drummer? I'm really digging all the bongos on this album, and his double bass work is top notch. I think the heavy parts are some of the heaviest parts they've ever written.

I'm at the point where I almost think albums shouldn't be given ratings until 10 or even 30 days after their release date. Rating this album so immediately after hearing only a song or three is an injustice to the work and an insult to the artist. Albums like this deserve SO much more of an intimate and repeated listening experience in order uncover all the nuances, details and layers that are offered. It's a shame that this album is hanging around the 3.5 mark and it has only been out all of FOUR days.

Why do you care when people rate albums? Is it personally effecting you in any way?

"Damn guys this dude on Sputnikmusic.com rated the new Katatonia a 2.5 after 3 days and now my grandma's dead...."

I get what he's saying though. This album requires some pretty heavy digestion IMO. I find it very unlikely someone could rate this a classic after hearing it one time. 10+ times yeah totally, same goes for all of the 5s the day Terminal Redux came out. To each their own, but I personally don't do that for complex albums. It's like telling a girl you love her on the first date.

Wisdom of Crowds was okay from what I remember. I should give it a re-spin.

Serac is probably the best track in here, brilliant! This sounds like a 4 so far for me...
