My hunch was right, Carl co-wrote the song. Youtube was wrong.

Uncle Jesse from Full House
You'll love this. I know it. It's a god send to the heathens of the world, to the lepers and the bastard children. It's the only life, the only way for me...

it's never been reissued, it didn't even sell 2,000 copies in total, plus Carl pretty much dissed it when he said he wanted to make "inspired" music, and Al Jardine is on record putting all the blame on Mike for it even happening
it's more of a trainwreck than the MIU album in which both Carl and Dennis hated it, the latter even wishing it would "fuck up Mike Love's karma" (and even then, there's some decent songs on there)
I believe Mike and Bruce do the title track every now and then on tour, but yeah you're pretty much right.

The story of how the original Smile never came to be is really tragic. Everything that could've gone wrong, did.

To be fair, pretty much no one in the band were that supportive and didn't understand Brian was mentally ill at the time (and fully didn't comprehend his illness until the whole Landy affair), so Smile was never going to work out.
Mike is okay, but he really could be an asshole sometimes.

Mike is an asshole all the time. Did anyone read his interview in rolling stone a few months ago? He spent the whole time whining about how Brian got all the credit for his songs and how Brian has stolen from him for years

I'm sorry, but are we reading the same article?
I mean, think what you want, but who are we to judge someone in all honesty?

You have a point. I'm probably being harsh on the guy

To be very very fair, it is a business and he was always more concerned with the commercial image of the band whereas Brian and later Dennis were focused on the artistic progression that they had been working on ever since the Today album.

When in a band who the hell is concerned about the commercial image? You'd have to be more out of your gourd than Brian.

Mike Love.
Al Jardine.
Who do you think thought 15 Big Ones was an acceptable release? It surely wasn't the Wilson brothers.
