True

To me Nu-Metal always meant more of a funk influence than just straight up hip-hop.

How does the incorporation of various genres make something nu metal? To me nu metal is hip hop tinged metal (limp bizkit, korn, linkin park etc).

To say that incorporating different genres into the one is to call progressive metal/rock bands nu metal as well.

Again, just my opinion.

Alternative metal is a genre of heavy metal that gained popularity in the early 1990s. Most notably, alternative metal bands are characterized by heavy guitar riffs; typically, these riffs have a pronounced experimental edge, including unconventional lyrics, odd time signatures, more syncopation than typical metal, unusual technique, a resistance to conventional approaches to heavy music and an incorporation of a wide range of influences outside of the metal music scene.[1]

And yes, just copied and pasted wikipedia lol

To me a funk influence makes me think of RHCP

Nu-metal is a mixture of funk/rap and metal more than anything.

And that makes Mudvayne nu metal then?

Hip-hop is strongly funk influenced as well, it is kind of a lost cause arguing over subgenres anyway everyone sees things differently. There are so many metal subgenres it is retarded

To me only noticeable funk is in the verses to Nothing to Gein.
Just because the bassist throws in pops and slaps in doesn't make him funk, it just shows his willingness to incorporate something different into the mix, and possibly showing his influences.

It's just me, I respect your opinions, but i'm inclined to label it alternative metal than confine it under nu metal, I sense a whole bunch more than just funk influence.

But genres are so subjective, so why fight about such technicalities?

I just couldn't honestly belive that Mudvayne and this album was considered nu metal so I thought that I would see what some of the comments would be when I posted.

Still stand by what I said, but I respect everyone's opinion

This is a music forum man, people are going to comment on this.
It's just a healthy debate, not an argument....chill man, chill

The fact that it's a music forum is all the more reason we should eschew lame sub-genre debates. That shit's lame. We should talk about aesthetics, dynamics, vocal/instrumental talent. Not labels.
