American primitivism is more of a folk subgenre than it is a country subgenre.
Like I wouldn't compare this and Modern Country as country albums, they sound nothing alike.
Not a big deal though of course. :-]

have you even heard the album? there's a hint of americana sound, not really pure country obviously but his take on american primitivism is unique and doesn't relied on Fahey's blueprint. Unless you want to differentiate Alt-Country and Americana as their own genre its not fair to say that Modern Country devoid of any Country influence.

Ok "they sound nothing alike" is a bit of a stretch. I acknowledge there's Americana influence in Modern Country, but Americana itself is somewhere among country, folk, blues etc. and thus not strictly country either (and a bit beside the point I do differentiate between alt-country and Americana though it's a fine distinction as the two often come hand in hand). Modern Country is definitely not devoid of any country influence but to call it a country album is misleading at the very least. We can of course go on and on and say that country is technically folk music too so the fact that it's folk doesn't mean it's not country and so on but in the end we're arguing about an album that we clearly both love. :-]

I mean I would put Americana albums on my list of favorite country albums but I wouldn't put American primitivism albums there, and I think Modern Country leans much closer to American primitivism (in form and songwriting, at the very least, if not necessarily in sound) than it does to Americana.

AOTY Grammy incoming.

i love how they just throw in one random good artist or album to their pop-filled categories every year

This is my AOTY and I'm glad it's getting some recognition but there's no way this wins. Kanye will explode if Beyoncé loses to another actually good artist again.
But I mean implying that this is even in the same league as fucking Justin Bieber is a crime and proves the Grammys have no value whatsoever (as if anybody needed more proof).

May have to 5 this tbh.

As of Kanye's trip to the psych ward, no one's taking him seriously. Fuck them all, like I said if Arcade Fire could do it, Sturgill Simpson could very well do it too
