Definitely better than KNY, but this thing is going to take a few listens for sure.

I might prefer it to Koi No Yokan (which I have rated the lowest next to Adrenaline), so that isn't saying much. I guess all I can say is these guys can't release anything average. Phantom Bride IS an awesome song, but so is Acid Hologram, t/t and Prayers/Triangles. I can already see both Hearts/Wires and Xenon growing hard on me. Solid stuff, man.

On first listen I want to love this, but it's really not clicking with me yet.

After listening to it, besides maybe "Hearts/Wires," nothing really stood out. But I bet there is shitloads of good stuff nestled away. I'm still confident it won't be as good as anything before DE, but it's already better than KNY.

Better than a few things before DE, not better than DE and KNY ;).

The first two listens were pretty boring but who knows, I still need to listen with decent headphones. The previous album took a while for me to get into.

Great review. I haven't found this to be among their best work though, it doesn't grab me as being as aggressive or memorable as other works. I do feel it growing though, so I may totally change my mind. As for now though I'd say it's on the level of KNY - good, not amazing.

Words cannot express, how disappointed I am by this album. It sounds so generic and a bit dumbed down. I love the deftones. Big time fan, I was so amped up for Gore but so far I am quite underwhelmed. I like doomed user and hearts/wires but the rest aren't doing it for me, so far. I understand now why Stephen wasn't feeling the direction they were taking with this. I found myself trying to listen over and over again, in hopes that it would grow on me but instead I just got depressed. Deftones have this crazy, creepy, erotic, menacing style that is second to none. I'm just not finding much of it in this album. Gore is quite a bore. This may be their worst/2nd worst album, in my opinion.

Hopefully this one grows because It didn't do much for me on my initial spin. It feels like awkward mashup of their previous releases which doesn't quite work, that's honestly the only way i can describe it. But ill see if a few more listens doesn't change my opinion

1st listen- Awe, c'mon man! WTF?!

2nd listen- Eh, it's not bad.

3rd listen- This is actually pretty good

I haven't even listened to the whole album yet, but for the people saying they've listened to it once and don't know if they like it yet - you really have to listen to an album at least three times (could be even more for some) to get a good feel for it. Some music isn't obvious on the first listen (and usually that music that isn't has better replay value in the long run, at least I find that to be the case anyway). I'm just hung up on how bad the mastering is. It's just not enjoyable to listen to when everything sounds like mush thanks to having such a low dynamic range.

I get why people say you need to really absorb an album before you judge it but im not convinced there's many huge revelations to be found in subsequent plays when it comes to the Deftones

My experience with the S/t would say otherwise, but hey, that's just my experience.
