I enjoyed DBZ and Yu Yu Hakusho as a youngin'. And shit, some of my friends are around 30 and still lose their shit over DBZ.

"Also anime are just Japanese cartoons so I think it's a bit silly to say you "just can't like it" as a whole genre after only watching one crappy one. Forget the one you watched and get on some Cowboy Beebop, FLCL, and/or One-Punch Man. They're all fantastic and the last two in particular are bizarrely fantastic (and funny). "
They're pretty different from american cartoons in art style and writing.

They're very different from each other too, that's the point. Both american cartoons and anime are very varied, so shrugging either one off because of one show is doing a diservice to the bigger scheme of the genre

also tell us about the thing you watched so we can figure out what it was.
edit: and if you just say "it had big robots in it" i swear to god

SAO is objectively the worst anime to ever exist.

will not check then. Also I've been meaning to ask for a while: I watched One-Punch Man a while back and really liked how obnoxiously nuts it was (same with like FLCL and Gurren-Lagann), so is there anything else crazy fun like that that anyone would recommend? Until Attack on Titan comes back on I'm fresh out of anime ideas.

I hear that JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is one of those over the top obnoxious animes that work really well

yeah jojo is even more over the top than one punch man, like, for a few miles, but it's great and funny lol

Space Patrol Luluco is a short-form series airing currently that's doing a good job of filling my over-the-top anime quota for this season. it's by Trigger, same studio behind Kill la Kill which was also great and pretty over-the-top. they're also both by the same director as Gurren Lagann if that tells you anything.

how about panty and stockings? more about comedy, no fight sequences really
|
| |
I always hesitate to recommend that one right away since the art style is so different, but yeah that's another good one. also by the same director as SPL, KlK, and GL so basically the lesson here is just watch pretty much anything he's done if you want over-the-top

yeah the style is closer to american cartoons, like it could straight up pass as an american cartoon and you wouldn't notice, but it's great soooo >:]

One Punch Man makes me so happy, dumb over the top superhero parody at its finest.

Oh heck yeah, Kill La Kill was great. I loved how self-aware and parodic it was about fan service. Addin those to tha list.
