Album Rating: 3.5 | Sound Off

I meant to review this myself, but I feel I've lost base with my writing. Movie was okay, worth watching once, but I really enjoy this score, somewhere between a 3.5 and 4 for me.

I think everyone who hates this movie is just afraid of how much balls it has. People bitching about source material need to grow up.

"Batman doesn't kill people... waaaaah" Because it's entirely realistic to assume that, after the death of Jason Todd among many others in his crew, Batman would still be like... "naw, I'm still ok with not killing people". Christ, he beats the shit out of so many bad guys in the comics and still die hard fans are like "nope, none of those people died". Seriously?

And how the hell is Superman wrong? He's fucking white bread, at least in this movie he's semi-interesting because he gets mad about things. I thought the movie gave realistic portrayals of what both characters would be like given the circumstances. and Zach Snyder is setting up a universe, so even IF he started out the characters the way people suggest the cannon is, that means a lot of you are insinuating that these characters are going to remain stagnant throughout the entire DC universe. And I'm sorry but that's the most boring idea I've ever heard.

The movie is a fun ride. Parts are jumpy but if Watchmen vs. the director's cut is any indication of how BvS's director's cut is going to be then I'm even more stoked than I was walking out of the theater.

"Spider-Man is Sony, Deadpool was Fox, and I'll fight you over Captain America being better than TDKR, even with all the problems the latter film had. Cap's first film is kinda eh."

My bad about Spider-Man and Deadpool. But real talk, TDKR is MASSIVELY overrated. More plotholes and ridiculous lapses of logic than any superhero movie except BvS (I don't remember MoS well enough to comment on plotholes). It gets a pass because of the goodwill that TDK built, but it's really not a "good" movie. CapAm may not have been as ambitious, but its execution was way better.

If Batman is literally just going to run around murdering people and branding them like cattle then he may as was have just made a Punisher movie. It's not Batman anymore, and there are plenty of people who have pointed out Snyder's failure to comprehend, or total disregard, of the source material. There's no reason for his deviations other than "this is edgy and super cool."

Which, frankly, it isn't, because it misses the point of why Batman became Batman in the first place.

Batman killing people is the least of this movie's problems

That's also a fair point. I didn't even mention the gaping black hole plot holes, the idiotic reasoning for the two title characters to stop fighting, the horrendous iteration of Lex Luthor, the shoehorned Justice League cameos, the horrendous writing in general, the dumb ending scene that was pointless because you knew he wasn't actually gone, etc.

Referencing the Death of Superman story actually made me mad given how stupid and damaging that story was. Who wants to bet he'll snap out of his bs super coma just in time to get brainwashed by Darkseid.

Why even bother fake killing him there's literally zero chance they'll do Justice League without him. It was totally pointless.

I think the whole point of it was to show that he would be willing to "die" for his world. In MoS we see him clearly willing to fight for his world, but the whole problem surrounding him during BvS was "is this alien on our side?" Right now you are thinking of your self. You are taking these things you've known about a character for years and putting these odd expectations on the fictional populace within this cinematic universe. The people within this made up world don't know if he's a good guy and so, to do that, the writers had to show them that he was willing to die for his world. The same thing applies to Batman. He doesn't know Superman like the audience. So he has to learn through Superman's actions. It would be even dumber if they didn't kill him and everyone within this made up world was like "Alright, now we know he's a good guy magically".

I think the reason why they stop fighting needs to be made a little bit more clear though. I understood what they were trying to do, but there should have been a little bit more reservation from Batman... like "I'll help you this one time Superman, but I'm still uncertain of how much I trust you".

That's like saying someone is good just because they died for their cause. I'm honestly just pissed that they hamfisted my favorite Superman story-arc into the end of a movie. Seriously, the trade paperback of the Death of Superman is a fantastic story, it's basically a movie laid out, even with the fight choreographed. I can still remember the text reading, "This is it, were both putting everything we have left into this one last punch".

There's that, but also the abomination of what they turned the Dark Knight books into. The animated versions were spectacular, nearly all DC animation is perfect. You know what the world doesn't need? Dream sequences. The fact that reviews bring up "too many dream sequences" leads me to believe there's gotta be at least three. DC should've paid attention when the world saw AoU and said, 'This Thor dream rave is fucking stupid."

Saw Batman v Superman again (for a second time) last night and I still enjoyed the film immensely, though I could definitely see more of what turned many people against it. First and foremost, the editing is sloppy. There's the scene with Superman and Ma Kent on the family farm that lasts for around 30 seconds. Then there's the scene where Wonder Woman checks the e-mails and her wardrobe changes abruptly within a short scene or two. The film is an unfortunate mess of a movie with tons of good to outweigh whatever bad remains.

Something that surprised me about seeing it again was my change in opinion on Lex Luthor's portrayal in the film. Originally, like many of the film's critics have pointed out, I felt like Eisenberg's Lex Luthor was the weakest link, since he's basically Heath Ledger's Joker v2.0. However, this time around, I found him to be surprisingly relatable despite his villainous tendencies. Plus, his scenes with Holly Hunter are phenomenal. Scoot McNairy's Wally/Wallace was another great character/performance (alongside Holly Hunter's Sen. Finch). I deeply enjoyed this film and I'm still baffled at how it's got 29% on Rotten Tomatoes, meanwhile Avengers: Age of Ultron has 75% and Iron Man 2 has 72%. Give me a break.

yea the RT score is bullshit. in the movie eisenberg reminded me more of the riddler in batman forever, right down to the white coat he looked and acted nearly identical to jim carey (but not as over the top ofc)

seeing it for the third time tomorrow. aside from the editing i really like it which is why i cant wait for the director's cut cause im sure most of the editing/pacing problems came from the studio hacking it down to 2 1/2 hours

There's one woman reviewer who apparently has her own review site and neg'd this film, but gave God's Not Dead 2 a positive score, as well as doing the same for other awful religious movies. Apparently any schmuck can get their reviews on RT if they have their own crappy site?

to be fair, weighing a movie's quality on % alone is kinda dumb. Sausage Party (a movie slated for august) sits at a 100% from 6 critics because of their "rough edit" pre-screening but the actual critic scores average out to a 6/10. RT rates film on a "is the review positive/negative" basis.

which is why a movie like age of ultron, which sucked, has a 75% because most of the "positive" reviews are in reality 6/10 which usually means "oh its flawed but I liked it"

yeah, the way they do it bugs me, too. Especially when loads of random big movies seem to be getting +90% for like no reason.
