it's not very good. it's the new standard AA sound, without the more powerful sound setup Twilight (and sort of Oden) had.

My fav albums are versus the world and oden, these albums turned out exceptionally good

Oden and Twilight are very high up on my list. Listened to Deceiver all the way through for the first time today and that album riffs pretty hard. I kinda gave up on AA once all of the albums started sounding the same, but this is probably worth a listen even though you mention it's still pretty much just another AA album.

This is a step above Deceiver imo

they just rely so much on their own formula, they know how to make really good melodies and rhythms but they just don't really do anything with them other than repeat the same fucking things over and over again.

If you are all expecting anything more from Amon Amarth then I do not know what to tell you all.

pretty sick album really

I really wish I liked this new album more than I do, but I'm just not feeling many of the songs. They seem kind of bland to me overall. War of the Gods crushes every song on this album.

"Why is it crap tho"
Shit lyrics. Shit riffs. The vocals are fine though. Probably the weakest song on the album. The rest sounds pretty good and I must say, I've given up on AA after Twilight (as said previously: more streamlined, more melodic, no bulldozer of a track like "Asator" on WOoS) but I haven't heard great songs like "First Kill", "On a Sea of Blood", "One Against All", "The Way of Vikings" or "Vengeance is my Name" in a long time from these guys. This album definitely packs more of a punch than the previous two (and Fate of Norns... one of the most boring AA album of all... sure you have "The Pursuits of Vikings" but that's pretty much it).
But is it just me or the melody played by the synths on "The Way of Vikings" is heavily inspired by the melody of the main theme of The Witcher 3?

I know it's supposed to be, but the lyrics are waaaaay too cheesy for their own good. I have the same problem with Ghost B.C. If you growl stupid lyrics it's ok, it's barely inteligible anyway. But if you sing, try at least to sing something smart of beautiful (and not something super cheesy or cliché).
For me this song just falls flat on its face.

Heard a few of these songs live on Wednesday when AA was opening for Iron Maiden. Raise Your Horns was pretty badass.
