Bought tickets to see em in London before the album came out. Uncertain now as to whether I should keep or sell.
Pros - Never seen them, Feels thru Fall Be Kind are some of my favourite albums ever
Cons - Will largely play new stuff I don't like, attendees likely to be insufferable

Shepherds Bush? I'm going to that one too
I'll be insufferable

Doofus, don't get me wrong, I love those releases and think they're perfect. I just think with this and CHz, it's just gotten a bit "safe" for them in a way. Their song writing has gotten lazier too though which is probably the main reason the last two releases have been average.

Anatelier, I'm hoping it'll still be a quality gig despite the last two albums being suspect, it's probably still worth going I'd say if you've never seen them :/
I like Shepherd's Bush as a venue which always helps

Doofus, agreed that Shepherd's Bush is a nice venue and I suppose at worst it's a night out. Perhaps the new stuff will have more energy in that environment.

yeah man it'll probably be better live. Wasn't really a fan of Centipede, but loved their live album that had a bunch of Hz tracks. Plus they're playing some oldies, even part of "Alivn Row" from Spirit They're Gone, Spirit They've Vanished.

Some really cool moments here that make me want to up my rating, but in general there's still too much heaping/echoed vocals atop homogeneous percussion for my taste.

Listen to MPP or Strawberry Jam after this and it's a knock out, new one doesn't stand a chance, so I can't support above a 3.5 for this.
They've simply done so much better before on numerous occasions and it isn't like this is such a radical change in sound that you can't directly compare either
|

as someone who has only really listened to Strawberry Jam once or twice, I'm actually interested to hear this album just because I don't have other AC albums to compare it to. the review is really well written and explains your point very well, but for a listener unfamiliar with AC's discography (i know, im probably in the minority) Im curious as to what this album sounds like by itself, when it isnt compared to the rest of AC's discography.

I'm pretty sure every Anco record has a 5 from a different staff writer

Another band on my "planned to listen to" list.

Plane I think the average score is about right for this one and I doubt all the ratings are people comparing with the old AC output

This is a great review, well done, and well earned as a contributor.
Given Lewis's comments I'm gonna have to listen for myself, though. Didn't full-on dig Centipede, but it was a big-time grower.

@Doofus, just found out the Shepherd's Bush gigs have been moved to a place called Troxy. Both of the nights have been condensed into one, so if you bought tickets for the 11th April, it's now changed to the 12th.
