Idk who'd sound good on this though. Maybe it would have helped though cause James is really not the best vocalist.

Yeah his voice has definitely aged over the years. I'd say there would've been a few vocalists that would've fit here.

At least he's not doing James Hetfield impressions anymore, that's the one good thing about Portnoy's departure since he was clearly the one to push for those vocals.

Someone screamed "Where's Portnoy???" during one of the silences and everyone starting booing at the guy lol serves you right.

The drummer is a fine replacement he was fantastic. I honestly didn't know Portnoy left the band until my dad told me in the intermission.

why do you think the last two albums have gotten so much shit?

Album Rating: 2.3
I don't know why this is, but he doesn't really seem to be able to show off his creativity on the studio releases. Portnoy's drumming was always far more interesting to hear for a lot of people. Live though I bet he lets loose.

Like I've said before, Mangini gets way too much shit. Sure Portnoy was better but Mangini is a good replacement for him. He does gets a few moments to shine, especially on here.

"Someone screamed "Where's Portnoy???" during one of the silences"
well duh he was a shit ton better than mangini. still, quite a douchey thing to do
|
| |
then again, portnoy also had some terrible lyrics and backing vocals so his departure wasn't fully a bad thing

Portnoy is an exuberant and flamboyant drummer that is just too fun to see live, original member of the band whose major flaw was his excessiveness and his tendency to being THE man in the decisional process of DT.
Mangini is a great drummer that has no voice what-so-ever on his on-disc performance which has always been blatantly written by someone else.
This disc is a steaming pile of c**p but I'd imagine I'd somewhat enjoy it live anyway. LaBrie is a good singer and broadway-ish musical lines are where he shines the most. IMHO his best work ever has been "The Human Equation" with Ayreon, and I was lucky enough to see the live theatre rendition of the disc. Now that was good s**t, great and funny concept well-written and just spectacular live. Imagine coming from THAT and having to listen to THIS, yuk
TL;DR: please for the love of the prog gods listen to better concept albums
