As far as variety and songwriting goes, this is definitely better than twda. this time you can feel the guys thought "let's write songs that are something different than 100% chugs throughout"
that it's poppy and at times uninspired is a whole other story

Less pointless weedles too. Agreed on the stronger songwriting.
Idk I just feel like this band can do much else in terms of longevity.

Thank god they've rid of the Machine same scale played over and over type shit. The solos on this actually have some feel to it. I still don't understand how some people are saying this isn't as good as TWDA. On first listen I immediately felt this was way stronger. The only tracks that do anything off of TWDA is Absolution, Illusionist, Imaginary Condition, and Source Field.

I got bored of this band after The Discovery.

I'm not surprised at how boring this turned out tho

TWDA was awful so I dunno about this.

it's not that it's boring as so much as it's too consistent for it's own good. Not that much variety to be found on here since a lot of the songs sound the same (which is a pretty common thing for most deathcore) which could be the reason why some people think it's a snooze fest.

Yeah this is way better than the rating suggests. Been my go to fun metal album since it came out.

TWDA is a bit underrated. It needs more love!

Ehhhhh. If the songwriting on TWDA was as solid as the songwriting on this I'd have no problem loving it.

On my second listen now, and it feels like a slightly lackluster follow-up to The Discovery in an alternate universe where BoO never recorded TWDA. Does that make sense to anyone?
The band definitely upped the musicianship on this album (in comparison to TWDA), but it feels like they're still cribbing from The Discovery. Keyboard ostinatos (check!), riffs-by-way-of-chugfest (check!), meandering sweep-picked scales that are repeated throughout the song (check!), monotonous vocals (check!).
Not a bad album, but I feel its best moments occur when the band is trying to move away from their new streamlined sound (although I'll admit that the keyboardist's shouted/sung vocals are a great touch). BoO is overflowing with instrumental talent, and as a musician myself it's kind of a shame to see them repeating the same simple formula so often.

I agree as much as I disagree with you. Yeah they're kinda stuck in that formula i agree, but the vocals absolutely slay. One example of my agreeing/disagreeing. Probably listen a couple more times.
