the universe is shaped exactly like the earth if you go straight long enough you end up listening to i just want to sell out my funeral

Funeral is still second best TWY track behind Cigarettes and Saints imo. What I love is that my top 4 TWY songs all come from the past 4 albums, and in order lol
1. Cigarettes and Saints
2. Funeral
3. And Now I'm Nothing
4. Logans Circle: A New Hope

Pretty hard list to argue with tbh, I'd replace New Hope with Devil in my Bloodstream
|

love Devil in my Bloodstream (especially Laura Stevenson's backing vocals) but it's probably tied for like my 3rd favorite song on TGG with Screen Door behind Funeral and Bastards Vultures Wolves

My only problem with it is that the emotional climax is smack bang in the middle rather than at the end - sometimes I just skip the last minute cos I've already heard it all, whereas a song like Cigarettes & Saints is the complete opposite of that. Still one of my favourites though
not really a fan of Bastards, Vultures, Wolves - the verses are terrific, the chorus is mediocre, the last minute or so is pretty bad
|
| |
see ahhhh no I love the ending of Bastards so much, that's one of my favorite parts on the whole album lol

Feels so anti-climactic to me like he's building to something really epic but keeps cutting himself off with every "I came here" and then it's ends and I'm like fuck that

"I’m sure there ain’t a heaven,
but that don’t mean I don’t like to picture you there."
That line and his delivery hit so hard

I can understand that @Rowan, I just love how it subtly stacks all the instruments on top of each other and gets louder and louder and love the guitar in the ending as well. The production on TGG is so damn great

Yeah the instrumentation is cool for sure, just for once Soupy kinda really lets it down. Production is perfect for sure

I kind of agree with you Row, feels like the song could have been a lot better without the lyrical repetitiveness at the end

Album is great after a few listens but I still feel like I'm missing something. Songs like Cardinals, Cigarettes and Saints, I Don't Like Who I Was Then, and a couple others are incredible but the rest isn't hitting as hard for me. I'm new to The Wonder Years so should I listen to Greatest Generation or something to really appreciate this album?

So I finally found a solid version, now I can finally sit back and enjoy this. Backing vocals in Cardinals get me everytime.

Cigarettes and Saints may become my favorite TWY song

Passing Through a Screendoor still occupies that spot for me.

An American Religion was as a whole kind of a generic high tempo rocker, but the lyric "Truman will always be remembered for dropping the bomb, i'll always be remembered for my fuckups" was great and kind of encapsulated the album in my opinion.
